How do I remotely log into my Mac securely without having to put files in the "Public" folder?
Edit: It wouldn't show up on the network if I was in another place. It'd probably be from a Mac to a Mac

What I do is enable FTP access on my mac. So no matter if I'm using a Mac or a Windows, I can always connect. To connect on a Mac, just do Apple-K, and type in ftp://<IP address> and then enter your login info in the box that pops up. Your IP address can be found in the Sharing preference where you enable FTP access. You can also enable Apple File Sharing and that'll get you the same thing. To login from Windows, go into Internet Explorer and in the address bar, type ftp://<your username>@<your IP address> and enter your info again. This will give you access to everything in your Home folder.

Browse for it on the network and log into it with your username and password.
Are you talking about from another Mac or a PC? Either way, it should be the same.
