What core unit band had the most members?

I'm looking for the band that had the largest number of musicians making up the core group...i.e. Chicago-8, White Stripes-2, etc. I don't need to know groups with add-ons, as in "The Who perform with the London Symphony Orchestra"(that would be 223 people, but that doesn't count), or Pink Floyd's back up singers(they don't record with the Floyd, most back up singers are hirees from the musician's union)

Update:

please include the number of musicians and their perspective roles(names are not important, but the more detail the better, thanks)

Tower of Power. They had bass, drums, guitars, 4 saxes, three trumpets, two trombones (maybe three), keyboards. Earth Wind and Fire ain't too shabby either.
