It can if it has large amounts of caffeine. That can raise the blood pressure but decrease the heart rate which compensates for trying to maintain a normal blood pressure. It is especially dangerous in children and people with other health risks such as hypertension, heart disease or obesity.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

If it's diet, then not usually.

But if it's the regular kind, then yes. Usually if you look at the nutritional info on the side, it will tell you many carbs and sugars are in the product. If it's over thirteen and your blood sugars aren't low, I wouldn't suggest consuming the product.

Also, just some info for the answerers above, diabetes is more about blood sugar than blood pressure. There is a difference.

Yes. It would appear so according to some studies but more scientific research in this area is needed.

It would also depend on what type of soda, if it's something you are worried about I'd say common sense would say avoid soda with caffeine or sodium (either no sodium or very low sodium).

Make it a point to read food labels and avoid items that are high in sodium like canned vegetables, soups, deli meats, soda pop, frozen dinners, condiments and snack foods like chips or crackers...they all increase your blood pressure

I wouldn't think that much of an increase, though it can increase your weight which would have an adverse effect on your BP. How much do you drink. Some people whose BP is not under control cannot drink any caffeine.

The caffeine can definietely get your BP up. Additionally soda is loaded with sugar-not good for diabetics.

If you really need one try a caffein free sugar free variety.

Most soda is high in sodium (salt), so in theory - yes. Look at the ingredients label. Not all soda is high in sodium.

No. Clogging up your arteries with fatty foods will though.
