Ammo for Sharps reproduction rifle.?

I am getting a 45-70. Does this have to be black powder or what about smokeless and the 45-70 government?

    Bound's hubby here:

Presuming you are buying your Sharps over a Marlin 1895 in .45-70, because of the aura of the old single shots, I would fire the old black powder rounds. Also, check the barrel for a "black powder only" warning.

The .45-70 and the .45-70 Government are one and the same cartridge. Typically, there are three bullet loads: 300 grain, 405 grain, and 500/525 grain bullets. For long range shooting (300-1000 yards, yes 1000 yards), shoot 500 grain bullets. Problem: the offerings for current production .45-70 black powder cartridges is severely limited. You may find that you will have to reload your own.

For my Browning 1885 High Wall, I cast my own bullets and load my own cartridges to help improve the rifle's accuracy.

When you clean black powder, Hoppes has a black powder formula that is formulated around citric acid and works really well.

    Good luck.

22lr is a strong determination. in case you pick some thing with slightly extra pop yet nevertheless no flinch and rather decrease priced ammo a 223 would paintings properly additionally. you need to purchase 223 ammo for $5 a container of 20. way extra desirable than 22 ammo yet extra inexpensive than the different high quality.

It shouldn't matter. As far as I know, cabelas.com had .45-70 ammunition and Sharps rifles.

The modern Sharps reproduction rifles will fire either round.
