Why won't you save the troops from "friendly fire"?

A week after acknowledging a litany of errors in the friendly fire death of former NFL star Pat Tillman, the Army said Wednesday two soldiers who died in

Iraq in February may also have been killed by their own comrades.

The Army said it is investigating the deaths of Pvt. Matthew Zeimer, 18, of Glendive, Mont., and Spc. Alan E. McPeek, 20, of Tucson, Ariz., who were killed in Ramadi, in western Iraq, on Feb. 2. The families of the two soldiers were initially told they were killed by enemy fire.

What's the point of sending the troops over there to have them shot by their own comrades?

No wonder some are questioning "Why don't they care?"

It's not the Democrats who have given up on the troops.

It's the Republicans who care nothing about the welfare of the brave soldiers.

There are numerous means and methods to recognize friendly forces; however, in the heat of battle they may be overlooked, the radio calls may not be answered, and/or the individual may be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then there is always the chance of greater good.

Unfortunately for the families of the service members killed by FF, there is nothing we can say. We can only try to improve what we have on the ground.

What's worse is people who don't have a clue and haven't bothered to do any research, but go around making groundless, baseless accusations.

  • Where to start? First, when bullet is fired it can't be called back. Friendly fire means an accidental shooting. If it was otherwise it wouldn't be friendly fire. It's hard to tell where the bullet came from and only after research can the whole truth be found. Also, even thought the bullet and gun may be of American make, the gun may have been stolen and used by an enemy.

What makes you think that Republicans care nothing about the troops because of an accidental death. (which, by the way, happens in all wars) It's the Democrats that want to take away firepower and equipment by defundng the efforts over there?

Once again, we find that all liberal thought is based on faulty thought and outright lies.

This has nothing to do with Democrats and Republicans. "Friendly fire" incidents have happened since the inception of warfare, and were FAR more common in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. The reason why it *seems* to be such a big deal now is the massive involvement of the media. If a couple of guys get killed in a friendly fire incident, then the story gets paraded forth in print and visual media for months. There were plenty of incidents in WWII where tens if not hundreds of casualties occurred in a single "friendly fire" incident.

It has absolutely nothing to do with people not caring, and "friendly fire" incidents are FAR less common now then they were several decades ago.

I'm personally all for getting our people out of Iraq. As for friendly fire, it happens in all wars, whether they're justified or not. Same thing for the accidental injury and death of innocent non-combatants. Two of the uglier aspects of any war.

As for trying to drag the Republicans into this and implying that they're the cause of friendly fire deaths, you should bone up on the history of the Viet Nam War. Democrats got us into it, Democrats kept us in it while 500,000 Americans died uselessly, and it was a Republican that *finally* got us out.

If you've never been "under fire" then there is no way to explain how this can easily happen.

As far as endangering the troops goes, its the dems that are threatening to leave our people on the battle Field with no money for food, fuel, or ammo. They're the ones who are playing with human lives.

The only person who would ask a question like this has never been anywhere near somewhere "friendly fire" can happen.

Man up, go through the real thing, then talk about it.

Friendly fire happens in the "fog of war". This has gone on in every conflict that ever took place. Those who have been in combat know the confusion that lies therein. Sometimes the killing of friendly forces just happens. It's very devastating to those who had mistakenly commited the act, and they live with it the rest of their lives. Many measures have been taken to prevent it, but none of them are perfect. As long as there is conflict, these incidents will happen. We don't like it, but it is a fact of life.
