Hello there, it depends on your idea of "cheap"
Despite whats been written here it is still possible to get some inexpensive deals on Lanzarote accomodation.
But different people have different ideas on what the word "cheap" means.
However, for example, if you go to
www.medhotels.com
I found one week self catering at the Playa Poccillos apts in Matagorda in a 1 x bedroomed apt for 7 nts travelling mid-May for just £93 and that was for TWO people!
That is less that £7 per person per night! Thats was I call cheap!
I also found The Timanfaya Golf resort in Teguise on half board same dates for £253 or .... get this... ALL INCLUSIVE for £316 and again these are for a whole week for TWO people- thats a great price too! I mean, where can you stay and have all your meals and drinks included for just over £20 a night?!!
Obviously if you are going in peak dates, the price goes up but even in mid July, you can still find some good deals.
It's all about knowing where to look and doing the groundwork.
Don't lose heart, spend a little time searching and you can find some brilliant deals at great prices!
Wherever you end up, please remember to check www.tripadvisor.com for reviews of any accomodation you might be considering and don't forget, cheapest isn't always best but most expensive isn't either!
All the very best of luck to you- have a great holiday!

I live in Lanzarote and work in an apartment complex in Puerto del Carmen. To be honest, there aren't many cheap hotels here anymore, everyone I meet is complaining about the prices here now (30% more expensive than Tenerife or Gran Canaria) sorry :( i would suggest you check out a website called http://www.otbeach.com/ they do lots of good deals and I saw some the other day starting from about £23 a night! Most of the hotels in Puerto del Carmen are four star but there are some nice apartment complexes too!

check out lonely planet guide for cheap hotels, it does a really good job selecting good ones.
Another idea is to use a camping site, they are god fun and you will be supprised how good they are. The only problem is getting equipment on plane as tents can be big.
