  • How to install Windows on HP laptop?

My friend has asked me to clean up her laptop (sister in law kept using poker sites and on opening the internet 25 pages opened!). Reformatted the hard drive and tried to reinstall Windows 7 (this was the OS that was already on her laptop). Wouldn't install so bought a new hard drive thinking the hard drive was damaged but still having the same problem. First it said that there was no hard drive but now it goes to the opening install screen then nothing, just the blue screen of death. It's an HP Pavilion DV6. So....brand new hard drive but just can't install Windows 7 (or XP!), changed BIOS, Sata etc but no luck, can anybody tell me how to reinstall Windows on a clean drive please on an HP laptop?? Thank you in advance!

  • (Almost) 4 year old daugher won't talk to new people....any advice?

My daughter will be four in December. At home she is a chatterbox and never stops talking. She started school last September when she was 2.5 years old (where we live children start school the year they celebrate their third birthday). She talks to her classmates and her teacher no problem but whenever we meet new people and they say hello or ask her her name she refuses to answer back. I've told her it's okay to talk to new people and that I'm there to look after her but she just refuses to talk. She is a shy child so is there anything I can do to help boost her confidence a little bit. I'm not worried about her would just like her to be a little bit more confident in new situations.

  • 22 month old crying and wants carried.....help?

My 22 month old daughter is a little monster! I would say that she is probably happy for about 20 minutes per hour, the rest of the time she cries and wants me to carry her. It's really starting to wear me down. I work in the mornings and she goes to nursery but she has my attention all afternoon until she goes to bed. She wakens around 6am every morning and has a nap from 1pm until 3pm every afternoon. She has a set routine, breakfast, lunch, dinner, bath and bed are always the same time and it doesn't matter if she goes to bed at 7.30pm or 10pm, she still wakens at 6.00am which is another habit I'd like to break! She doesn't even waken up happy! When she wakes she starts to cry. I have another daughter who is three and I feel so sorry for her as she doesn't get any time with me because her little sister is constantly wrapping herself around my legs or crying at my feet. They are both so different, my eldest is a model child, she's so good but gets shouted at because her little sister is just so demanding. I've told my husband that I'm going to start taking our three year old once a week, just the two of us so that she can have some mummy time without having to share me but does anyone have some tips to deal with my toddler because I really am getting to breaking point with her. Thanks!

  • Can't connect to internet via ethernet adapter?

I've just installed a new motherboard (Asus M4A78) with Windows XP. I've installed all drivers for LAN; Network Adapters, Ethernet etc but can't connect to the internet. I use an ethernet adapter to connect to the internet and it's working fine as I have another computer connected to it. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?? I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, switched on and off the modem, ethernet adapter and PC but still nothing. I'm at a complete loss, any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh and there is no yellow question mark beside the network adapters in Device Manager! In fact there are no yellow question marks at all in Device Manager! Thanks.

  • what is your 14 month old´s sleeping/feeding routine?

My daughter is almost 14 months old and still doesn't want to eat table foods. She is still eating jarred food and only eats one full jar a day. Her sister (who is 2 1/2 years old) started eating table foods no problem by a year old and both have been introduced to food the same way. Just wondered if anyone had any tips for me to help her with real food (she also only has four top teeth and four bottom teeth, her big sister had nearly a full mouth of teeth at this age!)

    This is her current schedule:

7am wakens and has half a weetabix with full milk and sippy cup of water

8am 240ml (about 8 fl oz) of formula

    9am-10am morning nap

    10am snack, normally yoghurt

12pm lunch about half to 3/4 jar of baby food (she'll eat textured but only recently)

    1pm 200ml formula

    1.30pm-3.30pm nap

    4pm snack, baby biscuit

5.45pm dinner, more baby food and whatever we have I give her some of that but it usually goes on the floor

    7pm bath

    7.15pm 200ml formula

    7.30pm bed

If anyone has any tips to introduce table foods I'd be more than happy to hear them. I know all babies are different but her big sister just took to food like a duck to water. Should I maybe cut down on her bottles? Thanks in advance!

  • How to get rid of the night time nappy?

My daughter is 32 months old and has been dry during the day since she was 22 months old but I'm still having problems with the night time nappy. She goes to bed around 7.45pm and has her last drink about 6pm. She goes to the toilet before bed and I take her again about 10pm then again around 2am and she has a wee both times and the bed is dry but when she wakens at 6.30am (ish) the bed is soaked and wetting the bed doesn't waken her. Does anyone have any tips on how to help her stay dry during the night. Luckily washing and drying sheets isn't a problem so I don't mind changing her bed but it would be nice for her to waken dry in the morning! Any tips please?!? Thanks!

  • Bronchitis, when will symptoms disappear?

My husband has been diagnosed with bronchitis and started on medication four days ago, he has two inhalers, some cough syrup and two types of tablets (deflazacort and moxifloxacin). He is still feeling very weak and still has a really bad cough. He is an ex smoker (quit almost 10 years ago). He's had pneumonia twice too and whenever he gets a cold it usually ends up in a chest infection that needs antibiotics. He's also got wheezing in his chest. Does anyone know how long it takes before bronchitis improves or when he might start to feel a bit better? Thanks!

  • Childhood obesity, what should be done?

I have two little girls (ages 2 years and 1 year) and neither are over weight and both enjoy a healthy diet with fresh food and fresh fruits. My 2 year old has never eaten crisps, jelly sweets or had a soft drink (only fruit juice) although she has had the occasional chocolate button. Anyway, childhood obesity levels are on the increase and I wondered what other mums/dads thought about this. Personally I think it's the parents to blame after all, we are the ones that supply the food for our children. I have seen so many fat children recently and I know that some cases are due to an illness but not all. I saw a child about six the other day who had bigger boobs than me and she was tucking into a tub of ice cream, the father being overweight too. If i saw my children starting to put weight on then i would take drastic action before they got overweight. What would you do and what do you think is to blame for this "new epidemic"?

  • Should I cut down on her milk feeds?

My little one will be a year old on July 15 and is still not eating very well. She has a 200ml (7 fl oz) when she wakens around 6.30am, a bottle at 10am (180ml/6.5 fl oz), lunch at 12pm (pureed food and a yoghurt) at 1.30pm she has another 200ml bottle then at 4pm she has another bottle (about 150ml) and then her dinner at 5.30 (again pureed food with fromage frais or fruit) and then a 200ml bottle before bed at 7.30pm. I try to give her breakfast of baby cereal, weetabix or ready brek (contacted the makers to ask if it was okay for a baby and it is) but she won't always take it, at 10am I try to give her fruit but again, she won't always take any, she has her lunch okay but not very much and dinner time isn't really a problem. She won't eat textured foods, only purees (she has three bottom teeth and four top teeth) but I feel she's not eating enough for her age. My 2 year old was on table foods at the same stage and was still breastfeeding (my 11 month old stopped wanting the breast at 10.5 months). Should I cut down on her milk intake to see if she eats more solids. i've tried her with finger foods too but she just puts them in her mouth then spits it out again, she will eat bread/toast though. Any help would be appreciated, this is all new to me!

  • card write protected, how to fix it?

I have a Canon EOS 450D. Last night (after setting up for the lunar eclipse), the camera fell and when i switched it back on it said "card write protected". The tab on the card to protect it hasn't been moved but even after taking the card out and moving the protecrtion tab back and forth it still makes no difference. I can view photos on the card while it's in the camera but it won't let me format the card or take photographs. Anyone else have this problem with an EOS and any ideas how to fix the problem. TIA:

  • 11 month old wants carried all day, what can I do?

I have an 11 month old daughter (well 11 months next week) and she constantly wants to be in my arms. If I'm honest, it's my own fault really. When she was born I had a 19 month old daughter and so that she wasn't disturbed I used to pick up the baby whenever she cried or whimpered and now I'm paying the price. She's not too bad in the mornings but in the afternoons it's unbearable. I tried to maker her dinner the other day and it was almost impossible because she just wrapped herself round my legs and cried. If I don't pick her up she just sits at my feet and cries and it's getting frustrating for both of us. I've tried to let her cry but even with reassurance she doesn't stop. Does anyone have any tips I can try to stop her crying so much when she's not in my arms? Thanks!

  • Why does my coloured wash smell?

When I wash dark clothes they always come out of the washing machine smelling a bit mouldy as if the clothes have been put away damp. I use the same detergent and softener for a white wash and a dark wash and the same temperature (30ºC) and the white clothes always come out smelling lovely and fresh! Even once they've dried (in the sun in fresh air) the dark clothes still smell slightly mouldy. Any ideas how I can get rid of the smell?

  • 10 month old not sleeping through the night, any tips?

After 10 months of sleepless nights I'm absolutely shattered! Does anyone have any tips to help me get my little one to sleep through the night. This is her current routine...

    7am feed (she's still breastfed)

    8am baby cereal

8.30am nap (anywhere from half an hour to an hour)

10am milk feed and pureed fruit

    12pm lunch

    1pm milk feed

2pm sleep (again half an hour to an hour and a half)

    4pm milk feed and yoghurt

    6pm dinner

    7pm bath

7.30pm milk feed and bowl of porridge

    8pm bed

I've been giving her water when she wakens during the night but she doesn't want it, I think she just wants a cuddle! Last night she woke at midnight, 2am, 3am, 5.20am and I finally got her up at 6.30am. Her pediatrician said that she should be able to sleep through the night now and I'm at my wits end I'm so tired. I've got a 2 year old toddler too so I can't even nap when the baby naps as my toddler wants her mum's attention! My 2 year old slept through the night from 3 months of age and was on the same routine as my baby. Does anyone have any tips to help her sleep through the night?? Thanks!

PS For the past week I've been letting her cry when she wakens but the crying can go on for an hour at a time, it's not getting any less so the CIO method isn't helping either!

  • There's a mouse in the house!?!?

We've got a mouse in the house, from what I can see there's only one. There's a cat has been hanging about and has killed four in the garden but I think there's only one inside (I hope!!). Anyway, I haven't come across any mouse droppings (I wouldn't see urine) but I have a seven month old baby who is crawling and putting all her toys in her mouth. Are mouse droppings and urine dangerous? I hate the thought of a trap but I hate the thought of the baby getting poorly more so a trap it has to be just want to know if they are dangerous to the baby?! Thanks!

  • Which stage of formula milk should I use?

My little one is eight months old and has been exclusively breastfed until now (she's had some pureed fruit since she was six months old) but I'd like to try and start to wean her from the breast now. I'm just not sure what stage of formula milk she should have. I'm going to use Cow and Gate but can anybody tell me which stage to use. I have tried expressing but I really can't get enough to fill a bottle. Please don't say I should just keep breastfeeding her until she's a year old then she can have cow's milk, I think I've down okay by her breastfeeding her til now, just want some advice on formula milk! Thank you!

  • 7½ month old not eating solids?

My little one is 7½ months old. She has been eating pureed fruit for about six weeks but now she just clamps her mouth shut and refuses to take any solids. She will only take some at night (6pm) but that's it. I tried introducing veggies into her diet but she doesn't want that either. She had been exclusively breastfed until she started solids and now she's still breastfed with the one portion of solids a day. She's fed at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, at 6pm she has some fruit and then fed before bedtime at 7.30pm, she's also fed twice during the night (midnight and 3.30am). I will keep breastfeeding her until she's a year old but I would like her to eat more solids. Does anyone have any tips? She has been teething recently, her two bottom teeth are through the gum but they seem to be taking an age to come through fully, her two year old sisters teeth popped through really quickly! My 2 year old loved trying new solids and I had no problems with her, just as well they're all different eh?! Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
