Blood pressure elevation can be caused by a number of things... you can even increase your blood pressure by thinking about something... death, taxes, sex, chocolate... so why wouldn't sitting in a smoke filled room create undue stress on your body, and in doing so increase your blood pressure !!!

Most definately. If you are hypertensive and are going to the doctor, be sure to avoid smoking or avoid being near smokers for at least 20 minutes or so before getting your BP read, as it can definatley increase your BP and possibly result in your getting BP lowering medication when you really don't need it. Oh, the nicotine in cigarettes causes your blood vessels to decrease in size, which increases your blood pressure.
