I'm not positive if this is your problem but a similar problem happened with my jeep grand Cherokee If I let it sit the rpm's would drop to low and it would stall. It was fine while driving but if it sat at a light it would fail. It turned out that my air intake valve was just gummed up and at a low rpm wasn't giving the engine enough air. All I had to do was take off the air intake and clean off the valve it was quite simple in my jeep im not sure about the Durango. Hope I helped, Mike

I have a 5.2L Durango that I have threatened to push off into the river many times because of this same problem. My mechanic put a new idle air control on it. That seems to resolve the problem, but I have gone through two of these in the last six months. I'm hoping this one will last for a while. If your problem gets better after the engine warms up, that's probably all it is. I would also recommend getting the injectors cleaned and having the fuel system pressure tested. It may be time for a new fuel pump.

A common problem is low fuel pressure. The pump will get weak after time. Running it low on gas, sediment in the tank can all kill a pump. What happens is the pump will still run, but not put outthe correct volume of fuel to keep the vehicle running. have your mechanic check the fuel pressure at the test fitting, and compair it with the factory specifications.

EGR Valve Clogged, dirty or improperly functioning or defective egr valve. PCV Valve Plugged or damaged pcv valve. Idle Air Control Valve Damaged, loose, or faulty idle air control valve Air Cleaner Temperature Sensor Damaged or faulty air cleaner temperature sensor or air cleaner temperature sensor circuit. Fuel Injector Cold Start Valve Faulty cold start valve or circuit.

this just a start start with the egr they get carbon build up and the valve sticks click the link to see how to clean it. also test the EGR Position Sensor Operation and the EGR Time Delay Switch Operation:

it sounds like your torque converter or torque converter clutch solenoid is going bad. I would suggest going to a decent transmission shop or a dodge dealer and having the check it out.

    hope this helps

its the IAC and get it replaced. will take care of the problem. if not its the TPS. it can be only 3 engines. the 5.2, 4.7, or the 5.9 my first course of action would be the IAC as its what controls the idle.
