Christians: Fate of pre-Columbian Native Americans?
Suppose you're born to a Navajo tribe sometime in the eleventh century AD. You are instructed in all the religious traditions of your people. You perform the sacred rites needed to make it rain on time, and do all the things that God requires, as far as you understand it. Then you die, and find out that you have to spend eternity suffering in Hell. Why? Because the Son of God was born on another continent thousands of miles away, and apparently died for your sins, but you never accepted him as your Lord and Savior. Oops, your mistake.
Is this really how it works? God may be apparent to all in nature, but Christ's sacrifice is not. How can God punish good people who had no chance to accept Jesus?
On the other hand, if God saves the ignorant, then what's the point of evangelism? If you can only go to Hell if you actively reject Christ, but not if you never heard of Him, then teaching the Gospel is just about the most evil thing you can do.

Ya'at'eeh,
You have a couple of interesting questions, but I'll base my answers on what I know as a Navajo and what you stated, "You perform the sacred rites needed to make it rain on time, and do all the things that God requires, as far as you understand it."
This God is Satan or this Navajo did not listen carefully to God. To perform everything as God says or "as far as you understand it", you are doing something for God's purpose. You are fulfilling what God wants. You are making God happy. Also by doing as God says, you except God as your "Lord". Then, to have it turned around on you and you are casted to hell for all of eternity? This would mean this God must not be the good God but instead the bad spirit looked upon as a god, Satan. This would follow the Christian doctrine against "false gods". ORRrrrrr, there was a mis-interpretation by the Navajo as to what God wanted. In the end, God was disappointed and damns this Navajo to hell. Or, it's a combination.
Maybe, God decided not to inform this Navajo about Jesus Christ, God's only son. Maybe, God did not feel a genuine connection with this Navajo and did not want to tell this Navajo of his son. Maybe, God did not like Navajos and other Native Americans and just decided not to save them. As such, God would not tell this Navajo of a hell and heaven. Maybe this was God's little experiment? Maybe God is schizophrenic or has bi-polar tendencies? I don't know.
ORRrrr, no matter what humans do, we are all going to hell. Maybe Antoin Levay is correct?
ORRrrrr, this is just a very badly worded question... Hmmm.... interesting...

Those people live in socialism. The hunters bring in the food and ALL get to eat. The basket makers make the baskets and ALL get to have a basket. They live together as a group, working towards the common good and nobody uses their greed and power to rise above anybody else. I think that is how we are supposed to be. The Dead Sea Scrolls , in the tales of the Patriarchs says that the fallen angels taught men to make coins from gold. There is no page in the bible that shows God telling man to come with a form of currency to use against each other, so that we can keep track of how much somebody owes us. That concept is of the devil. The strong should do the hard work, the weak the easy work and the old should just sit around and teach the children about how society works. The tribals have a far superioir system to what we live in

As a Latter-day Saint, I believe everyone will have the opportunity to hear the gospel. We do not believe that those who have not accepted the gospel in this life will go directly to a Hell but rather will have a chance to hear it in the afterlife.

It's a jolly good question, and for those Christians who believe in hell, it ought to give pause. Of course, I don't believe in hell, because I consider it unscriptural and bad theology - and not least for the reasons you suggest.

When we are judged we are only held responsible for the knowledge we have been given. We are judged on how we use that knowledge in the choices we make with that knowledge. Christ (Jesus) died to atone for ALL mankind that they might have everlasting life. We are responsible for how we spend eternity based on how we use our agency.
