Is it evil to teach the Gospel (read details)?

According to John 14:6, no one shall come to the Father except through me [Jesus]. But that can't possibly be true. If it was, then anyone who never heard of Jesus because they were born on the wrong continent or in the wrong century would be damned. So would the souls of aborted fetuses, stillborn babies, and any child who died without baptism. So would people with severe mental retardation, who might hear about Jesus but have no hope of understanding. Surely God doesn't intend for all these innocent people to spend eternity in Hell because they didn't accept Christ.

Ignorance of the Gospel must therefore be an acceptable reason for not accepting Christ. The only ones who are sent to Hell are the ones who knew about Christ and rejected Him. So by teaching the Gospel, you are forcing people to make a choice; and if they make the wrong choice, they pay with their souls. But if you told them nothing, they would be saved by their ignorance. How then is Evangelism not evil?

Update:

@brandon: Nice corollary!! I think I might have to include that in my next question.

Everyone else: Your inability to respond with anything even vaguely related to my question translates as "Your superb logic has totally blown our minds, we are awestruck by your brilliance and can barely see straight, much less form a coherent rebuttal." So, thanks, I'm flattered.

You actually summed it up perfectly, as far as I see it. You pretty much answered your own question; "If you told them nothing, they would be saved by their ignorance".

I think one of the worst aspects of evangelism is that it tends to focus itself on those already converted. Every Sunday the minister, pastors, and any other clergy (the majority, not all) head to their church and continue to preach their religion to those who are already aware of it and believe it, so in even doing that they are being hypocritical; they're supposed to spread the word of God, not focus on those already aware of it.

But, then, it gets to the same problem that were they to spread it, there's a possibility that it may damn more people than "save".

I think the worst part of it, and this may go to help clarify your stance, is that if my brain and the Bible are the works of the same infinite, all-knowing God, then whose fault is it that they don't agree? How can I be blamed for not believing Christianity when the creator himself knew I wasn't going to believe it right from the start?

If there is a God, he does not want his people to go to Hell.

I suppose my direct answer to your question is simply agreeing with your summation, so Yes.

Isaiah 46:11 (King James) Calling a ravenous bird from the east (far east in Moffatt Version), the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. Historically: The first and only Christian Religion started/registered in the East was Iglesia Ni Cristo. Why was it registered? Because it's required by law. The rest of the Christians started/registered from other countries. This prophesy was fulfilled.

God is a God of mercy

I think the concept you have of God is dead wrong

God is Good all the time, his will is that all men be saved

He would never send Innocent souls to hell

hell is too much of an issue,

    love should be the issue..............

What others may do is not your to say. It is between them and God. Just you do what you are supposed to and it will be between you and God. It isn't that hard to be a Christian. But it is hard to act like one.God Bless
