When is the Haj due to take place in 2007, when does it start and when does it finish?
I am not Muslim, i know it moves forward each year as it is based on the islamic calender which is (i believe) based on lunar cycles (13 or thereabouts in a 12 month period). My father in law is a Muslim and can not afford to go on the Haj - i wish to organise a fully paid trip for him and hence need to know when it is.
Please do not give me listings to travel agencies - he lives in Russia (he is Russian) and UK or US travel sites are of no use for this project. I need the dates so that i can look at organising it that is all. Thank you.

It is very kind of you to do this for your father-in-law. May Allah reward you for your act.
According to Islamic calendar, the date goes back 10 days...in 2006, Hajj was on December 29.
The Hajj this year is going to be on December 18, 2007. It is subject to change, so you would have to make bookings for him around this date.

There are many websites that offer Hajj. Here is one of them. You should monitor to find out when they will begin accepting reservations, just to know when Saudi Arabian consulates will begin issuing Hajj visas worldwide.

The Hajj in 2007 will take place beginning around the 11th of December. The Hajj is usually done in the first 10 days of the 12th Month of the Islamic Calendar, Dhul-Hijjah, even though the important days are the 8th - 13th of the month. Pilgrims arrive in Jeddah airport headed to Mecca within a certain timeframe, ahead of the busy season, after which no Hajis are processed any longer.

You should probably ask an Imam at the mosque what the Islamic sharia says about paying for someone else to do the hajj. Usually, people save their life-savings to perform this very important and honorable trip, and most people make sure that funding money is all obtained from "halal" sources, so I would advise you to check on this first.

The two peoples answer above me are good. Also, you should wait a few more months later. Right now is very early.
www.fatwaonline.com
That is a good site which does state the date or Hajj and also Eid. Right now they have nothing up there.
