I am trying to save something to a CD ROM. What is this??????

I am typing a paper and I need to save it to a cd rom. I bought them and when I open the file and hit save, it saves it then my computer tells me that I the file is ready to be written to the cd..???? what is this? Do I have to do that too? I just want to be able to have it saved on my disk so I can take it to school and print out 35 copies that I need for my class.. what do I do?

Update:

so if I dont "write the file to the cd , will I not be able to bring it up once I get to school. I need this for tomorrow morning! When I check to see if the file is saved it is there..????

Right click on the cd drive (in My Computer or Windows Explorer) and pick 'write' (or similar).

Starting with Windows XP, you can use the operating system to write saved files to a cd. I do NOT recommend using this built-in utility. Roxio, Nero 7, or some other burning program will give you far more reliable results. If you want to simplify it even further, a flash (thumb) drive will allow you to save and edit files just like using a floppy disk. And many drives have greater storage than a cd and for less cost than a spindle of coasters.

CDs aren't like flash drives, you cant just save, delete, and modify the files. You need to use a burning software (I recommend Roxio) to burn your file to the CD.

Do you have a CD Burner? Why don't you try a USB Thumb Drive? How about email? Floppy disk?
