F1 out of status to marriage/ greencard.?
My buddy came to USA in F-1 visa. He is getting married this weekend with an American citizen. He doesn't want to go back to school this semester which starts this friday. His Advisor is telling him that he has to be in school and maintain a full 12hr credit. He will send his I-130 on 17th april to INS.
What happends if he doesn't go back to school? Will he be deported or have to leave the country before change of status can happen? If you know of a good immigration lawyer please refer.
Thanks for your help.

As long as his visa is still valid, I don't think he will be deported. moreso, he will need to file the I - 485 to adjust his status as soon as the I -130 has been approved.
good luck.

file the I-130 & I-1485 with other supporting forms and there will be no problem. On his way to a green card, but it may be a condiitonal card if the interview happens before his 2nd wedding anniversery.
