Spaying my Boxer?
This is my first dog (besides having 2 during childhood). I adopted Mazie, a 3 year old Boxer who has not been spayed. She has a very mellow temperament and a very sweet personality accept around other dogs. Will spaying her change her personality/temperament drastically? Do you think spaying her will calm her down a bit when around other dogs? I notice when around other animals she acts very dominate. But she bows down to my cats....but she actually loves the cats. They sleep together everynight. I just can't seem to calm her down when she sees other dogs.
I adopted her from a woman who could no longer care for her.

Spaying your dog will not change her personality. She will still be the Mazie that you love. It would be the best for her healthwise and best for you if you don't want puppies. It may also calm her dominancy issues to some extent.
Dogs are pack animals and enjoy the company of other animals. However, they compete for the best mate, the best food, the best sleeping position. Therefore it is normal for them to attempt dominancy. Spading removes some of the reason for her trying to get the upper hand with other dogs.
I would highly recommend professional training if she continues to show agressive behavior towards other dogs.

Congrats on the adoption. That is the responsible thing to do. I can't help but wonder why the pound didn't have her spayed before she left. Sorry, I was fading. The spay won't change her personality for long (meaning she will be lethargic for about a week after the surgery), but it should be done anyway. Bob Barker's been telling us for years and people still don't listen. If you love your pet, take care of it. Making sure she doesn't get pregnant is part of that care. As for the personality, take her to a trainer. There are tons of great trainers in my area (Los Angeles) and I would imagine that the same is true near any large city.

Spaying will not change her temperment. Try taking her to training or have a trainer work with her 1 on 1. You should still spay her because she will be healthier and could live longer if she's spayed. Also, male dogs can smell a female in heat from miles away and you wouldn't want any unwelcomed visitors or pregnancies. Good luck!

collectively as canines ~can~ be spayed/neutered lots in the previous, maximum vets and puppy vendors agree that someplace after 6 months is a sturdy time. many human beings wait till 300 and sixty 5 days for large breeds. i'm not keen on the entire waiting for a woman canine to have her first warmth argument nevertheless. My opinion is they might desire to be spayed/neutered someplace between 6 and 9 months.

being 3 years old her personality is already formed, spaying her may mellow her out a bit but no guarentees. this should be done for health issues though, also boxers are runners and with the amount of unwanted dogs out there why take a chance of an accidental pregnancy

Usually animals will be a bit calmer after being fixed, my cats and dogs all got a bit lazier and calmer after being fixed, one of the cats gained a lot of weight and had to be placed on a special diet because he is so lazy now!

She shouldn't change that much, she may be a bit calmer. None of my animals personalities or temperments went through a noticable change after spaying/neutering.
