I'm the proud mommy to two American Bulldogs, Kyra who is almost 2 and Glacier who is 9 months, Beau, a 2 1/2 y/o rottie/shephard mix that I fell in love with at the shelter, and Sugar the sweetest old hound mix you have ever seen. When my nest emptied, my canine companions filled it back up. I'm engaged to a wonderful man who indulges my passion for animals. We've been together for a little over 3 years and will be getting married in December. I took a sabatical from work a couple of years ago and did a lot of volunteer work at our local canine shelter. This led to a part time job at the Humane Society Canine Division which in turn, led to a full time job for a breeder of Champion Porties. Basically, I eat, breath, & sleep dogs. There's not much I haven't learned or am not willing to research to improve my knowledge. I'm considering starting a breeding program with my American Bulldogs, but want to ensure that I'm not biased about my babies by showing them this summer.

  • Removing stains from American Bulldog?

I have an 8 month old American Bulldog puppy who was surprisingly easy to crate train. However, he hasn't been so easy to housebreak and even though his crate is the correct size for him, he doesn't seem to have a problem laying in his own waste. He has an outside playtime in the mornings between 5:00 and 7:00, goes to the dog park for 30 minutes during my lunch hour at 11:00, another outside playtime from 4:00 to 5:30 in the afternoons and is out most evenings. He goes to the door when he has to go outside and is never in his kennel longer than 5 hours at a stretch. The problem is that he's white and laying in poop for 2 or 3 hours has left him horribly stained. He get a full bath weekly and wiped down when needed. He is to the point that he's only messing 2 or 3 times a week and gradually getting better, but I've used whitening shampoos with little results. Any recommendations?

  • Any tips for a small family wedding?

We're looking to have a small ceremony in December with family and a few close friends (50 - 75 in all). We've both been married before and just want the opportunity to share this special event with family and friends in a more casual setting. We've chosen the location (a local VFW) and have most of the details worked out. The only thing I'm having problems with is how to start the actual ceremony. I'm hoping the guests will be mingling with appetizers upon arrival and while I feel that I should be there to greet our guests, the romantic side of me wants to surprise my groom and see the look in his eyes when he sees me in my dress for the first time. With the informal setting, what would be the best way to accomplish that? How should we go from the mingling to the ceremony? Would it be too much to incorporate a walk down the "isle" for such an informal setting?

  • I know this is a really stupid question, but it's driving me crazy not knowing!?

I recently adopted a male dog. I've always had females so some of the "guy things" are a little foreign to me. My dog, Beau is a Rott. He was neutered a little over a week ago at about 18 months old. The other day he got an erection while laying on his back. At the base of his penis there were two ping-pong ball sized lumps. One on each side and perfectly round. It was almost like he had another set of testicles. When the erection went away, so did those "balls". I'm sure it's normal, but like I said, it's driving me crazy not knowing. My vet won't be back into the office until next Tuesday. I've asked a couple of people, but no one seems to know what I'm talking about. Any idea if this is normal or not??

  • I really don't need her help...do I??

I have a 6 month old American Bulldog and a 2 year old Cairn Terrior (about a 50 lb difference...lol) They get along great and are lost without each other. However...when I let them outside to piddle...the AB does her business quickly while the CT takes her time. The problem is that once the AB is finished she grabs the CT's collar in her mouth and pulls her to the front door before she's had a chance to piddle. I've tried taking them out separately, but the CT stands at the door waiting and won't do her business. How do I train the AB to leave the CT alone long enough for her to finish??
