How do I make my blog single place when I hit return?

I know this is a stupid question, but I just can't figure it out. I have a poem that I wrote for my daughter's birthday and want to post it....but every time I hit enter it double spaces for a new paragraph...can anyone help??

    Press the Shift key and Enter key at the same time to make a hard return. In HTML code, it will look like <br> instead of <p>. Good luck!
