Amtrak is the national train service, but there are no stations in Des Moines:

Greyhound is the largest bus carrier in the States:

I would recommend flying into Iowa. As there are no direct flights from India to Iowa you will need to connect through a larger airport (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc.), but that will be the fastest way to travel and shouldn't add too much onto your flight. Where you connect will depend on where you will be flying out of in India, and what airline you will be flying, and what airports in the United States they fly to.

This is the link to the Des Moines airport, that should help you pick your connecting cities if you choose to go that route:

Go to www.aa.com, they have a daily non stop leaving Delhi around midnight and arriving Chicago early in the morning. The equipment is a 777 so it is a very comfortable plane for such a long flight. Give yourself about 2-3 hours layover in Chicago to clear customs and change concourses if needed. You can then catch a flight to Des Moines. It should take just over an hour gate to gate from ORD to Des Moines.

Also, you should contact AA at 800-421-0600 for information on their platinum challenge. Basically it will allow you to become a platinum member and have an excellent chance for Business class upgrades on subsequent flights to India all free of charge.

You should fly into Chicago. I believe that is the closest international airport and it's only about 5 hours from Des Moines.

    Source(s): I live in Iowa.
