Anyone know where to get PLAIN colored paper for invites?

All sorts of colored cardstock and matching envelopes... they'll even cut it to size for you. And you can order samples!

Try Recollections (a scrap book store started by Michael's MJ Designs). I did my own wedding invites and they had everything. Or any other scrapbook or paper store; they often have a card making section with everything you could ever need. Stay away from the craft stores like JoAnn's - they are pretty limited in envelopes.

Check at a Hallmark Store of Office Depot

Try places like Michaels, Office Max, Office Depot, and Kinkos.

If those don't work, you can try online stores by googling 'invitation paper'.

Honestly I don't think it matters. People will remember the wedding, not the invites. So if you can save money, do it. Personally I quite like homemade invites.

If you have one around you, try Lakeshore Learning...it's a teacher's store...they have alot of things there.

Also, try to type it into www.froogle.com - that's google's shopping site. It will pull up cards from everywhere and anywhere on the net.

have you tried typing in your browser colored 5x7 cards? if that doesn't work go to office depot.
