How do you remove an aftermarket stereo?
Our new (used) car has an after-market stereo in it, but we need to remove it to put in a new one. Does anyone know what tool we need to get it out, or do we just have to take the dash off to get it out? Please help!
I didn't know it mattered. But here 'tis: we bought a 2002 Buick Century a couple of weeks ago. It looks like it has an aftermarket stereo installed, but someone has stolen the faceplate. We bought a new stereo to put in, but we've never done it before so we don't know how. Hopefully this update helps...

if you get two flat headed screwdrivers and push them in between the dash and the stereo at the side you should be able to slide it straight out! good luck

You can try using a couple of screwdrivers or maybe some paperclips or whatever (depending on how the unit was installed) and probably damage dash in the process or go online and try to find an installation manual, which will contain a list of tools that you will need, for your particular brand and model of the installed stereo and reverse the procedure to remove the unit OR (and I highly recommend this approach) take the car to an after-market stereo shop and let them remove the old unit and install the new unit. Certainly easier and, most likely, quicker than doing it yourself. One caveat. Take pictures of the present installation before you let them do the work. If they screw up the de-installation (it happens), you will have some evidence to prove your case if you need to go to small claims court (worked for me).

I don't know what to tell you. I have no clue as to what kind of vehicle you have!
Get a Haynes or Chiltons manual for your specific car. It'll show you in great detail how to do this. As well as basically anything else on your car.
Next time, let us know what you need. 'How do you remove an aftermarket stereo...Our new (used) car' just makes us scratch our heads.
Good Luck!
