How can I tell what kind of stereo is in my car?

Our 2002 Buick Century has an aftermarket stereo installed, but there is no faceplate, so we need to put a different stereo in. Our question is: How do we find out what kind of stereo is in already? We can't get it out unless we know what kind of 'keys' to get, but we can't find out what kind of keys to get unless we get it out. FRUSTRATION!

Update:

There are no words on the front of it....the faceplate is GONE

Take it to a car stereo shop and ask them to remove it for you so you can order a new faceplate, or if its not worth it replace it. They should be more than happy to do that if you're willing to do business with them once they find out what it is. They should have keys for just about any make of radio out there in their boxes. Most good installers can tell just by looking at the radio sans face what it is. Each different make has unique features that are easily distinguishable to an experienced eye.

Alright. It is very possible to remove the radio w/out knowing what kind it is. Just get the Haynes or Chiltons manual for your car (like before mentioned), remove the old one according to Haynes/Chiltons' directions, and put in the new one.

    Good Luck!

Try some Kenwood keys. They work on almost everything.
