In IL is it law that a double axle car trailer has to have electronic brakes?

Is there a law in IL that states a car trailer that has two axles has to be equipped with electronic brakes?

Update:

I googled IDOT and the sec of state and laws for car trailers and I wasn't able to get any info.

I would query an attorney in Illinois for the answer to that question, since many states have some very oblique laws and rules from their Department of Transporation agencies.

Go to the IL D O T site to find the answer not sure what the link is, you do not need a lawyer to tell you about trailers. I am sure it all depends on the weight you will be towing. Just do a search for Your state govt D O T rules.

go to firstgov.com and get into the IL state website and look up links to automobiles and trailers. I can just about guarantee that you must have brakes on a two axle trailer anywhere in the U.S.

Your states motor carrier enforcement division should also be able to help.
