why do you always wake up with 'morning breath' even though you have clean teeth?

I can brush my teeth straight before i sleep yet i still have stinky breath in the morning! It does nothing for my love life!

Many people breathe through their mouths whilst sleeping and this usually causes the mouth to dry out. People who snore are particularly bad for this. Saliva helps protect against bacteria so if your mouth is too dry then bacteria can get up to mischief and produce their distinctive aroma. Once we are awake we can go back to breathing through our noses again and our mouths become wet with saliva once more. This controls the bacteria and their smells again so the bad breath disappears as the day progresses.

Because when you are awake your mouth and tongue are moving and your salivary glands are working throughout the day from speech, food, fluids, chewing gum. The salivary glands are there to keep your mouth moist, keep bacteria at bay (which is why it is actually good to chew gum from 20 mins after a meal) etc. When you are asleep your mouth, tongue, salivary glands are too so the bacteria builds up easier and it's these little blighters that smell. Talking in your sleep doesn't stop them breeding either..... ;o)

That has little to do with teeth being clean or not. It might well be your digestive system is temporarily not working too well. Try drinking a lot of water each day, & stop eating food which is hard to digest. If in doubt, see your doctor. Good luck.

I think this happens to most of us.One possible cause might also be what you eat.
