you can get organic weed killers but if you still don't fancy that smothering them with black plastic, cut them down in late spring then put down the plastic over the whole patch, cover with muck or soil to 12 inches and grow anything you like on it. leave for a year or two when the roots will be weak and easier to dig out

Brambles can be an absolute bu****. And unfortunately, they spread fast, so no amount of pruning will dontain them as they just grow bigger and bigger rootsystems.

Unfortunately, this means that the only effective way to get rid of them is to dig all the roots up asap. If the bushes are big, prune them right back first and then get digging. Be prepared for some very large roots though!

You lucky, lucky, person! I am half-way through clearing a vergee (look it up) of brambles so I can make a veg. patch.

Get rid of the top-growth, I strimmed then burnt, then dig, at least two spits deep and remove every last bit of root.

    Best of luck.

you'd have to dig up the roots.

although if I remember correctly they like to send out runners to sprout new bushes - kinda like wild roses. so be prepared to do a lot of digging.

Cut them to the ground and dig out the roots. If you do not want to dig, just cut back any new growth every year. The roots will rott and die. So sad.

Pull them out. They are real hard to get rid of.

A goat. But that may not be practical. Unless you have a big weedeater and willing to attack it week after week, chemical killers will be your best bet.

Offer them up on your local freecycle.org group. Someone will be willing to come dig them up for you as they are extremely high in antioxidants, can help prevent cancers, and absolutely delicious!

When they die in the winter dig them up.

    Just keep cutting them.
