Will Brazil nuts become extinct?

My friend told me that the Brazil nut will soon meet its demise, as there is no longer sufficient enough land left in which to grow them. Due to the deforestation of the rainforests.

What do people think? Anyone able to confirm this at all?

They are dying out in the UK. We can't buy them with the shells on now and so they are dried up. Believe it or not the EU have banned the selling of them with the shells on because if you ate 100 shells it would make you ill.

This is a true fact, the EU people are idiots.

Everything becomes extinct sooner or later. I don't know about Brazil nuts but if there's a demand for them I expect that somebody will grow them.

That would be tragic. Brazil nuts contain selennium - three a day are enough to keep you happy.

I think that at the moment they have a disease on the shell and that is why they are only available pre shelled in UK at the moment ( has been for 3 years approx)

this is to prevent the disease from passing on to UK trees.
