He could be any religion. Religion and nationality are different things in case people are not aware of that. Not all Muslims are from The Middle East. Apparently he also had a violent history, stalked women and had something against rich kids (it said in his note). He was disturbed and nobody paid any attention to all the warnings he gave. I don't think this particular person was Muslim, however. There was no note left, no message claiming the glory for Allah. Witnesses described him as perfectly calm, even flat-faced and non-emotional. This is not the description of a martyr.
