Bipolar, Why do people who don't have it think they know about it?
I have bipolar, Iwas diagnosed with bipolar 10 yrs. ago. Bipolar is a disease that many have, you may even have it and do not even know that you do?! The way to diagnose bipolar is not through a blood test or questions? All you need to do is sit with the perso for 30 min. and you will be able to tell if this person has it. That is why a Psychiatrist not a Physician diagnoses this disease. Some one who has bipolar can be perfectly normal (happy, content, in the best mood ever) then within seconds go to angry (swinging, punching, screaming, etc) then within seconds go to complete depression (not wanting to speak to anyone, wanting to dye, want to lock themselves in a room and look at noone) then before you know it they are completely normal again. The only way to control Bipolar is to know you have it, remember that, realize when it is what is controling your mind, and walk away from it. If you don't know about the disease you need to not answer the questions people ask about the disease.

Just because you have BPD doesn't mean those who don't have it don't "know about it". And a 30 minute diagnosis of a mental condition is the craziest thing I have ever heard of. There are people who use the symptoms of this disease to excuse their cruel behavior to others because they simply do not have it but can mimic the symptoms. You may truly have it but this is the most ill-informed opinionated question I have ever seen. I take offense to this question because I suffered abuse at the hands of someone who uses bi-polar to explain his cruel behavior to women and children. I agree that with the answerer who said the information you have given is misinformative.
Think of a better way to discuss this bi-polar issue instead of assuming anyone who doesn't have it can't know about it.

I don´t know under what circumstances you were diagnosed as bipolar but from my experience i should say that it´s more than a 30 minute interview with someone... it´s a process that takes sleeping studies, behaviour inside the house, outside, with relatives, friends and people in your environment. You must be familiar with the "episodes" that are a characteristic of a bipolar or maniac depressive person... in the case i know the doctor suggested to take the person´s behaviour and when he was ok just show him accompanied by a therapist how his behaviour was and explain to him how he should have canalized all the anger he was feeling at the time.
Not all bipolars have the same reaction and need the same medications, there´s no posible way to be diagnosed after a 30 minute chat. I feel horrible for the way you are desinforming people here.
It took us 4 months of constant visits and even trips to diagnose the bipolar condition of my relative. If that was not the process with you i will recommend you to go to another therapist and ask for a second test. I have experience in the field and have a case close to me that made me get involve in the bipolar field reading, acting and helping others. Good luck and hope you follow my suggestion and talk to another pwychiatrist just to listen to a second opinion.

Just because a person suffers from being bi polar does not mean they know more about the disorder. Being diagnosed with the disorder gives it a medical validity or 'REASON" for your behavior instead of just thinking your crazy. Those that do not suffer from it often use it to challenge your credibility. Doctors, friends and loved ones often disregard any interactions, feelings or arguments with the easy all inclusive excuse - your bipolar condition. I bet this has happened to every person that is bipolar. How many times has anyone said "go take your pills" or "what do you know - your crazy?" 'are you feeling OK?" "you are not being rational"
The symptoms effect those who don't have it and those that do,but it is much worse for the people that do.

Good question! I figure It's because it's a very generalized & often over looked mental illness. I also have bipolar but was diagnosed with anxiety disorder a few years before. There are so many different types of bipolar & it can also co-inside with other mental conditions/illnesses. This makes it so easily misunderstood & people who don't have it, think they know all about it because they generalize it from the little they do know about it. Of course it's natural for people to have there ups & downs (we're only human), but for people with bipolar there moods are more extreme & intense, involving mania/manic, highs & lows as you would know. Though; some people that don't have it, prefer to be stay ignorant; on a positive note others are more open to learn more about it instead of judging or annalysing the condition with the little they do know & understand. So we can only help those who love us & those who're open to learn from it, to understand it more. But that also doesn't mean we can use bipolar as an excuse for our behaviour either, it just means we can help them to understand us more! remember that there's several types of bipolar as I mentioned earlier, so for us who have it we can only know more about our individual condition, though it's interesting to learn about other forms/types of bipolar too. I hope that helped answer your question. All the best!

hiya, i've got been plagued by bipolar for a protracted time, maybe years, yet I purely have been given a diagnosis a pair of week in the past! no one else in my relatives has it, all of them have recurrent melancholy quite. that's a relief to get the diagnosis in a fashion, because of the fact i understand that it is the Bipolar inflicting my temper swings and not purely ''me being loopy''. i've got been began on a low dose of Zyprexa, i think of my psychiatrist intends to function extra drugs in a pair of week's time. i think of on the time he theory i grew to become into manic, because of the fact while he asked how i might fee my temper I reported 'low area of standard' and then his eyebrows raised and he regarded taken aback and reported 'you recommend you get lots greater than this?' and that i went 'hell yeah!' and laughed, and that's while he placed me on the Zyprexa. i'm slightly depressed on the minute nevertheless, and that i will no longer be able to be able to make myself pass away the domicile, dress or get something to eat... besides, on the 2nd i'm no longer functioning properly in any respect, even nevertheless it is form of a relief to correctly known there are different bipolar human beings obtainable that are coping and residing a classic existence. i'm hoping which would be me quickly too. maybe as quickly as i'm on the properly suited drugs. each and every of the suitable. <3 x

people often don't want to admit that something is wrong that they can't relate to. if it is not cancer or something that is tangable to them they think that people are lazy or just making up excuses becauese they don't understand what it is like to feel the way that you do. there are a lot of very succesfull bipolar people one of which is patty duke and i recomend that you read her books, call me anna, and a brilliant maddness, both are very informative and helpful on bipolar and other disorders. maybe if you can have your friends and loved ones read it. they may understand a lot more and will quit trying to think that they have all the anwers. the only one who has all these answers is your psychiatrist. what is great is that you seem to be very informed about your disorder and that is the most important person to be informed about it. so just keep fighting the good fight you are doing great.

My niece has bipolar so I understand it to a certain extent. Most of the time it's impossible to carry on a conversation with her. For no reason she can become extremely paranoid and claims everyone is plotting against her. She hates taking a shower or bath and most every night wets the bed. When she got a mosquito bite last summer she claimed she was dying, dropped to the ground and started crying. After about 10 minutes she got up and behaved as if nothing happened. It can be a very complicated condition and I know it's difficult for a person to live with it and live with a person who has it.

First of all, i would NOT EVER TELL A SOUL...some people will make fun others will not....YOU KNOW HOW SOME PEOPLE ARE????...if you tell someone, everyone acts like they are 'DOCTORS'...YOU KNOW HOW IT IS???....we do not know anything about the disease...SO I AM SORRY...If in a job market you tell someone they will think you have a mental disorder and will watch you closely...IT IS NOT WORTH IT TO TELL...I had a friend that had some illness and told PERSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS AND SHE WAS NOT HIRED...I am trying to help you...please do not tell that...

It is preposterous order to teach first and learn afterward.
Bi-polar ppl seem to do this a lot, kinda like you're doing.

JC did NOT help the man into troubled water.
Rather JC healed him with 7 grace us words.
Rise, take up thy bed, and walk: John 5:1-14.
When later found in temple praising the law,
the man is then also told: "sin(law) no more",
and notably lest a "worse" thing happen.
Worse? Seven spirits in Revelation shld ring a bell.
