Bipolar, Why do people who don't have it think they know about it?
I have bipolar, Iwas diagnosed with bipolar 10 yrs. ago. Bipolar is a disease that many have, you may even have it and do not even know that you do?! The way to diagnose bipolar is not through a blood test or questions? All you need to do is sit with the perso for 30 min. and you will be able to tell if this person has it. That is why a Psychiatrist not a Physician diagnoses this disease. Some one who has bipolar can be perfectly normal (happy, content, in the best mood ever) then within seconds go to angry (swinging, punching, screaming, etc) then within seconds go to complete depression (not wanting to speak to anyone, wanting to dye, want to lock themselves in a room and look at noone) then before you know it they are completely normal again. The only way to control Bipolar is to know you have it, remember that, realize when it is what is controling your mind, and walk away from it. If you don't know about the disease you need to not answer the questions people ask about the disease.

Just because someone doesn't have it doesn't mean they don't know about it.
I have a friend who has it and I knew about it. How? Part of the requirement of my business major was to take a Pshycholoy course. We studied about many things, including Asperger's and bi-polar. We also studied about depression, and many forms of autism.
I'm also sure the person who diagnosed you didn't have bipolar-so therefore, your explanation is a contradiction in itself.

known a person that wasn't diagnosed with it but all of his friends thinks that he is bipolar. all the symptoms are there and it's crazy coz all the people that loves him can just wait and see for the outburst to pass and then he's back to normal again. at first, his kids doesn't understand why he's like that so they all avoided him for they don't want to hear what he has to say when the mood strikes. it's actually an extreme between kindness and madness.

As a mental health professional I also have to add that Bipolar can manifest itself through moodswings that are fast cycling (minutes/ hourly) to weekly or monthly. You are absolutely right to tell people to have someone qualified diagnose it. I work with children who have it and all have different cycles.
Good luck managing your own. It doesn't have to be a disability if you are educated, aware of your own body/ moods/ triggers/ etc., and do your best to keep yourself stabalized.

Many people think they're experts on things they know nothing about. Ignore the ignorance of others and deal with your disease in the right way. It sounds like you're in control of your life, despite being bipolar.
I wish you luck. Be strong.

People think their parents and teachers are bipolar...they feel sorry for themselves and think they have it harder than anyone else...
They assume their parents/teachers getting mad means they are bipolar...it's so annoying, I know what you mean.
