Help with cat and dog?
I have a Weimaraner that I got about 5 months ago. He is almost a year old now. I also have a cat I adopted about 4 years ago. He is 8. The dog chases the cat whenever the cat comes in the house. His tail is always wagging and it seems he wants to play, but the cat does not want anything to do with him. How can I get the two to get along? Or is that not possible?

I have 2 cats and a yorkie dog. The dog chases the cats, and wants to play. One of the cats will play with the dog, the other one hates the dog and the other cat. They have been living together for 5 years. As long as the dog has a playful attitude towards the cat, not vicious, then I think they are getting used to living together. They are getting along, in their own way......even if it is mere toleration.

Maybe you could train the dog to not chase the cat. From the way you described, it's not as if the dog is hurting the cat and the cat isn't doing anything to the dog, so all you probably need is to teach the dog that's in unacceptable to chase the cat. Just remember not to hit him or anything. I'm using a spray bottle to teach my dog not to eat grass, maybe you could do the same.

Well the cat is probably used to a calm life. I doubt if you'll ever get them to play, but once the puppy grows up and calms down a little and the cat gets more used to the puppy being there he should be more tolerant of your dog.
