Strange question, but driving me crazy. Neighbor backs into driveway.?
This is a stupid question, but I can not figure this out and its driving me nuts.
My neighbor, instead of just pulling in to his driveway, backs in to his driveway. Every time. There is nothing special about the driveway, it is in the front of the house, two cars deep. After noticing this, I also noticed a very few number of other people that do this as well.
What is the purpose of backing in to your driveway? You will have to go in reverse once per trip anyways, would it not be easier to back into the street instead of trying to back in to a narrow spot?
I know I sound crazy but I started thinking about the point of this, and it makes no sense. Am I missing something?

Depends where you live. A lot of people back in their driveways because of snow its easier to get out. Or they live on a busy street and its hard to back out. Or they prefer to drive out in the morning instead of backing up. I always back into my driveway cause I can leave quicker.

If your neighbor drives a pick-up truck or SUV, they may feel that they have better visibility when leaving. Granted they will have to back up at least once, but in the chance that you live on a street that is fairly busy in the morning with other people leaving for work, children walking either to school or a bus stop, this may prove to be a safer option for them. Also if they drive off in the opposite direction in the morning and have to back across one lane, the increased visibility may help them ease into the flow of any traffic.

First off, the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. Your neighbor probably backs into his driveway in the evening so that it's easier to pull out in the morning and feels it's safer.

Depending on the position of the driveway on the street it may just be easier to pull out ezpeciallyy depending on traffic flow

Not strange or stupid, my partner does it as well. My partner does it and he says it because it is easier to drive out in the morning... I think it might be because by the time the rear of the car gets out on to the road he still can't fully see whats coming but if he goes out forward then he has clearer vision. Also you don't have to reverse out the put it into Forward Or First gear.... so he then has less to worry about when it comes to someone running up his rear... Hope it helps feel free to ask more....

You've already said that this is a stupid question, so no need to beat a dead horse.
He does it to get your blood boiling.
And because he apparently prefers to back into his driveway so that he can pull out nose first rather than back into the street.
Why do you care so much?

Whats so hard. It's a lot safer than backing into the street. But here is one for you. In most places it is against the law to back off the road into your driveway, but it is also against the law to back out of your driveway into the street. They got you coming and going.

Maybe your neighbor feels more comfortable pulling out of his driveway instead of backing out.

If you live in a state like Arizona where only rear licence plates are issued you can easily conceal your car I.D. or licence plate like this. if you're one of the few that have expired tags then you do whatever it takes even if it means taking back streets and dodging cops.

Better visibility.
That's it, I back into carpark spaces, driveways, it just feels easier. I do it even when towing a box trailer.
