Why do we allow people to purchase, without a background check....?

motor vehicles? When they kill so many people each year? Why don't ban them, they aren't even Constitutionally protected?

Update:

Should people with previous DUI's be allowed to buy cars since the have been convicted of a felony?

Update 2:

But they do end life, like pit bulls and rotwiellers. Why don't you care enough to make laws to get rid of them?

Update 3:

It is not intent and responsibility in ownership that is important, it is what a few people use them for that is. Death Machines.

Update 4:

It's america's culture of cars that keeps people dieing, can't anyone else see this. And what about airplanes? They are killers from above?

Update 5:

I keep seeing people say stuff about licenses...how is it illegals get fake licenses?

Why do people walk outside? Heck, they could be hit by a car, van, a plane could fall on them, lightning could strike them, the could get stung by a bee and die.

Everything that you do in your life has a certain risk.. That's the reality. Protected? Heck, do we need more government rules about how we should live our lives? In my opinion, there are already plenty of things the government has their hands on..

I know. This guy had two prior stalking incidents.

A person buying a handgun should have to POST A NOTICE like a restaurant when getting a liquor license.

The notice should be out for 30 days (In the news paper, on their home, on the internet) and give the public the opportunity to come forward and make a claim of some kind. Of course the claims should be substantiated of course.

    Amen!

Baseball bats are also clearly a public health hazard. I see no reason why a person needs to play baseball, especially in light of the public menace those clubs they use cause.

And let's not forget about caffeine. The coffee and soft drink companies have known for years of the health hazards and the psychological addiction their products can cause. Clearly we should sue the evil coffee bean companies into agreeing to a mass marketing campaign to warn people of the hazards of their product. They also should pay millions in punitive damages to anyone who has ever over reacted to anything, because we all know that caffeine must be the root cause of any stress related response.

I can only speak for the cars regarding this question. Vehicles weren't built for the intention of killing people, they were built for the intention of transporting people and goods.

A firearm's intention is soley to harm, mame or kill.

Perhaps if we got to the root of why psychopaths feel compelled to use firearms in this manner instead of using them for safety or legal hunting we would solve our problems.

Why people other than the U.S.A. military are allowed to purchase machine guns, I have no idea. The U.S.A. is stupid in many ways

There is criteria that a person in the U.S.A. has to meet before he can buy a firearm, however it is not stringent enough.

Interesting question. Although, its not possible to purchase a car and register it without a license--at least in most of the Northeast states. DUIs have their licenses taken away.

They want the money. That's what this everything usually boils down to. Although the govt does suspend a person's license temporarily once they get a DUI.

Well, maybe people who get a second DUI shouldn't be allowed to drive at all anymore.

As for guns, few people are suggesting a complete ban, only high-powered or fast-action models that have no legitimate civilian use.

I agree, if you have a DUI, you should not be able to purchase a vehicle.

The 2nd amendment was created to protect our colonists from British soldiers taking over their homes. I don't see much chance of that happening now.

We control our cats and dogs, why not our guns?

if a motor vehicle - a machine built for transporting people- ends up killing many people every year out of carelessness, imagine how many people a gun -a machine built for the exact purpose of killing - can end up killing....

if you can not see the difference between the car and the gun......

Gun laws will need reform, but the truth is most ppl who buy guns legally are the ones who use them for legitimate reasons. The criminals don't usually purchae them legally so there isn't much effect.
