I'm not really a liberal except on certain issues. I decide my stance based upon issues--not labels. However, I would say my biggest fear of the "religious zealots" is based on the Terri Shiavo case. The government should not interfere with decisions that are best left to families. Of course, Michael Shiavo was no angel. He should have divorced Terri and given the POA to her parents. But the last Congress was the worst "do nothing" Congress we have had in years, but the religious "zealots" got the President to call a special Saturday session to deal with the Shiavo matter after the Florida Supreme Court had already ruled. What was he thinking? It was purely political appeasement. I've been married 30 years and when the time comes for my wife or I, I want my right to die protected. In general, I fear political interference with matters that should be left to the families.

    Speaking as a Republican.

My biggest fear is that the liberal left continues to indoctrinate the young minds full of mush into the communist way of life. The belief that they are owed a living just because you're here. That the Gov't is there to supply their every need and that the Gov't will be their mommy from cradle to grave. This way of thinking is what is tearing the country apart now because no one wants to take responsibility for themselves. Every time you see a disaster the first thing out of the peoples mouth is "Where's the Gov't?" when the last thing you want to hear should be" We're the gov't and we're here to help!".

Many years ago people took care of themselves and their neighbors but today people step over a person who has fallen so not to be involved. Self-responsibility is the one thing liberalism has taken away that I miss the most.

The erosion of the separation between church and state. Throughout history when big money, big religion and big politics have merged the resulting power has been very oppressive to the common people, and greed, corruption and absolute power tend to accumulate in the hands of the rich and "holy". Examples: Spanish Inquisition, Crusades, Dark Ages...etc.

As a liberal, my biggest fear is the loss of freedoms provided by the Constitution. It already started with this administration and the Patriot Act, the illegal phone/email tapping, the torture of politial prisoners, the lying to the American people about the war in Iraq...I don't want to go on, I'm tired and the list is giving me a headache.

Passing moral legislation that a saint couldn't uphold while they themselves are living a different standard, the Ted Haggard/Mark Foley standard.

As a conservative my biggest fear is the death of capitalism by the democrats. The free economy of our nation is at risk; if medicine (possibly the biggest industry in the world now) is socialized the demise of capitalism as we know it may not be far behind.

... liberal fear... another inquisition, but this time on American soil...

conservative fear... another soviet union, this time on American soil...

both may be a bit extreme and a bit unrealistic... but people who sat by and did nothing led to both situations...
