How do I get the diesel stains and smell out of my clothes?

I spilled some diesel fuel on me and it got on my shirt and sweatshirt. I've washed them but they still stink and the sweatshirt has stains on it. Does anyone know any secrets on how to get this out?

Diesel Fuel Stain Removal from Clothing

To remove diesel fuel from clothing, first, place the stained areas facedown on paper towels. Apply dry-cleaning solvent to the back side of stain, replacing the paper towels frequently. Allow to dry, then rub in liquid detergent or dampen stain area with water and rub with bar soap or detergent paste. Rinse and launder. If any odor remains, add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle of you washer, as this should take out any remaining smell.

My husband is a farmer and he says bury them. ;)

I did that the last time he had a major spill. For a week, then I took them out, put them in a wheel barrow half full of water. i put liquid laundry detergent on the stain and let it sit outside for another two days, and them washed them twice. I let them air dry outside. He had really spilled a lot (several gallons) and after the treatment, there was only the faintest odor.

Put your clothes in a large bucket or storage container with COLD water. Add two cans of coke, NOT PEPSI, and a box of baking soda. Let your clothes soak for 24 hours. Then, hang the clothes to air dry. Finally, put your dry clothes into the washing machine and wash as usual.

Hi there. I knew a woman whose husband was a mechanic and she swore that one 12 ounce can of regular Coca Cola added to the wash with her regular detergent did the trick. It's worth a shot. Have a great day.
