Help! A Yorkie with a hard head!!?

I thought I was good at the housebreaking thing until I met Ginger, a 6 month old Yorkshire Terrier. She's a smart little toot with a hard head for potty training. I've tried crate training and the taking her out every hour or two. I've scolded her when she's had an accident and positive reenforcement when she goes outside. Huhhh. It's not working.

Are there any suggestions??!!

crate training is indeed the right thing to do. just be strict about it and she should learn. it took us over a year, and she will still have an accident if we wait too long to take her out. take her out more often is my only advice. also, i but a tiny bell with a string hanging from the doorknob. my dog will ring it if she has to go and this especilly helps when im busy in the kitchen and not paying attention to her. you can email me, i have loads of tips..

Keep trying. Yorkies are notoriously hard to train like most terriers. I'd just take her outside if she makes a mistake though. Like you said, they're hard headed and hold grudges. She could have been kenneled too long at 6m. That happens when they are kept in a run. Hopefully the weather is getting nicer where you are. Hang in there!

I think scolding her is confusing her. You're scolding and praising for the same behavior (going to the bathroom). Try ignoring her accidents and praising/rewarding her when she goes outside. I've seen many dogs who've been scolded for housetraining mistakes who are never 100% housebroken because all the scolding did was make them afraid to relieve themselves, so they'd either "hold it" till they couldn't hold it anymore (regardless WHERE they were) or they'd hide behind the furniture and go.

Same thing goes with Beau...our yorkie...he's soo excited...

Everyday, we come home he's excited..he's jumping and barking and moving at 100 miles an hour....We have tired to do the same thing you have and it's not working at all...We have decided to take him to Petsmart and go to classes...We bought tons of books on training pups and we did exactly what they suggested and still not luck...

We bought those pads for him to use the bathroom on and he chews on them and then scratches them....so, basically we are stuck....

Let me know how things go...
