I dont see how its a trick... you would take the empty weight, add the weight of the fuel, add the weight of the pax, and then the weight of the cargo... thats your number...

You can measure the weight by tire pressure. Measure the tire footprint by sliding thin cardboard under the front and back of the tire, measure the distance between the cardboard. Do the same for the side of the tire and mulitiply the two numbers to get square inches. Measure the tire pressure and multiply this number by the square inch footprint of the tire. Example: 4 inch by 4 inch footprint = 16 square inches. 30 PSI in the tire. 30 multiplied by 16 = 480 lbs, the weight on that tire. Do the same for all tires and add together. This will give you a pretty close weight of the object you want to weigh. NOT accurate enough for any weight and balance calculations.

Here are several answers.. Any manufactured aircraft comes with a weight and balance certification. with this form, also issued is its empty weight. If you want its max weight, that will also be found in the Aircraft Owners Manual.

We in the airline industry have a weight and balance form that must be filed out and submitted to dipatch before we can get a release to fly the trip.this must include: empty weight + fuel+passengers+baggage, wnich must meet balance limits before it is given dispatch approval.

Most Airliners have an onboard system that gives the weight of the aircraft while it is on the gruond..........O.K. tell Grandpa the trick answer........

Calculate it using the sum of the weight of it's parts. However, there are actually scales that are used to weigh aircraft. I know; I calibrate them. They are called platform scales and the aircraft basically it drives up on small scales that are connected via cable or wireless interlink. The main module calculates the total weight.

  • They weigh every single part that goes into the airplane, from the avionics, to the airframe, to the rivets. Then they add them all together to get the weight. To find the weight fully loaded they use average weigh of humans which i believethey use 220 pounds, and the fuel which is 3 pounds to every gallon.

Im currently in the Air Force. we use whats called a "Slip Stick" it has different numbers on the scale. we also use the -4 Technical Manual (Weight and Balance) it lists all items installed on the aircraft. you start from one side of the scale and using simple mathmatics, you can determine the exact weight of the aircraft, hope this helps

The way ALOPILOT said would be the way without. To get the empty weight for the pilot to start from, mechanics have to use scales.

Look up the specs. Typically would include the total weight in order to determine fuel usage estimates.
