Oh my gosh, that's really scary. We have a puppy that's turning into a watchdog at night - she even barked ferociously one night when a family member walked into the room nearest my bedroom. If you're not allergic to them, doggies make great burglar alarms, even the little anklebiters can scare them away.

Hello Granny....No one is safe anymore, I don't believe. I remember when one could leave their front door open of an evening and not worry about someone just walking in. Not anymore. Times have changed and so has our economy to where too many people have lost their jobs due to companies closing, more drug users, people who want something for nothing, or people in general that are to lazy to get a legal job. It's sad to think that at one time we were safe to be in our own homes. Anymore we as home owners have to spend hundreds of dollars to acquire security systems in our homes and sometimes these don't work 100%. I would suggest not leaving your window open at night anymore and to double bolt your locks on your doors, this might help a little. Good luck and I wish you well. Keep safe.

Strangely secure. Very strange since my mum has begged me not to leave my back door wide open while I am upstairs on the computer. I did and left my expensive new mobile on the coffee table. Know I have no mobile. Interestingly enough I noticed my garden gate was closed, which it never is. I think I had callers. Possibly the new kids that have moved in down the road and who come into my back yard to get their ball. OH FooooL that I am . Now I dislike kids even more than normal. Although in truth I don't know if they are the guilty party. Although everytime I see them they do look kind of guilty, wont make eye contact and that. Hmmm.

Depends where you live, thats a scary experience, glad he run away.I live on a busy high street, there's always fights outside and people tend to kick my front door at late times of night..i have 2 huge bolts on my door as wellas the standard lock to remedy this problem and i sleep well at night.I reckon the best form of home security is a big dog,say an alsation or similar,no sane person would want to break into an average home with one of these.Guess i'll make do with the cat for the timebeing!!

I feel pretty safe when my husband is home. Sometimes he travels with his job. I also have an English Mastiff and a Border Collie that protect the outside of my house and a Baretta to protect the inside of the house. Kitchen knives are always a good thing to keep handy in the most peculiar spots if you think you may be in harms way.

1- Buy a large guard dog

2- Get an alarm system put in

3- Buy a weapon for protection and learn how to use it safely and correctly.

I feel very secure but then again anything is possible, but I feel pretty safe in my home. My doors are always locked. I make sure a check them at least three times before I go to bed and then I lock my bedroom door on top of that.

I feel totally secure in the knowledge that everybody around here knows I don't have much worth stealing, and that my dogs are well able for any intruder.

My front door is usually unlocked, even at night.

I'm female,56, living on my own, in Ireland.
