Too fat to breathe no diet works...?
I am 5'9" and weigh 213. I have tried every diet out there from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, You on a Diet, Atkins, South Beach, you get the idea. No diet works. I starve, drink more water than a person should, exercise yet I remain at the same weight or gain more. My dr. tested my thyroid and said I was borderline w/a thyroid problem but didn't give me any medication. Does anyone know of anything I can do to loose weight? Someone suggested a gluten free diet. I know I really need to do something because I'm so heavy I can hardly breathe.

if the blood test from the doctor said you are borderline for a thyroid problem, you should get a different test done, there are many other tests used to diagnose a thyroid disorder and the blood test is not very accurate, if it showed up with any problem at all I can almost promise you that you have a worse thyroid problem than many people on medication for it... also if you do have thyroid problems you should avoid soy and tofu products because they make it worse...
Rather than starving yourself, go to a nutritionist and have a balanced diet worked out... If your still hungry after following your balanced diet, mange on fruit and vegetables... If you have fruit or veggies already cut up and in the fridge waiting to be eaten you are more likely to eat them when your hungry than you are if you have to prepare them... Also, green tea is great for weight loss, drink it as often as you can with no cream or sugar
Cut out all pop, the diet actually makes you gain more weight than soda with sugar and splenda is BAD
Margerine is also something you want to avoid, if you leave a tub of margerine outside, not one insect or animal will eat any of it because its only one molecule away from plastic...
Ice Cream is one of the worst foods there are, it is so full of chemicals it is HORRIBLE for you
I'd recommend going to another doctor to get a second opinion, get a different thyroid test done, and go to a nutritionist, also get a gym pass and if you can afford it a personal trainer

ok first yes it's great you are looking for answers! I have tried many diets and have failed on too many to speak about. I was almost 400 lbs at the start of March. I was noticing the fat constricting my beathing and the sleep apnea was bad. I was in complete denial of where I was! Anyway since then I have lost 51 lbs for sure and then some( weighed in on Thurs) I feel great and this is not a diet! It's all about nutrition so your body is well nurished and satisfied. I'm not hungry and I do not crave, i haven't had coffee in a month and I do not miss it! I have energy and almost feel like I won the lotto!
I need to lose more but I know it is attainable. My next promise to me is to make it under 300 and over a 100 lbs!
I believe I will attain this by May 20 or so. I am determined and confident and just lovin it! If I can answer more contact me. I would be so happy to be support for anyone!

I am concerned about "I'm so heavy I can hardly breathe" statement. 5'9" and 213 should not cause breathing problems. You need to bring this up to your Dr. there may be respritory problems he missed.
Yes it would help to drop 30 or so pounds for health reasons and more if your trying to model swimwear. But first unless you have an allergy to wheat skip the gluten free diet, I tried it as I am borderline on the wheat allergy and it costs a lot and do not curb the eating. ALways feel hunrgy an hour later :).
DO try walking, swimming if possible, and generaly keep moving. DO go back to the Dr and ask for a full allergy test for the breathing issue. The side affect of allergies can cause weight problems also. Been there - doing that.
Now if you can tell me how to stop drinking these darn sugary sodas let me know... :)

Find out what your thyroid tests were ? There is some controversy over what the normal range for TSH is ? A new range has been proposed by endocrinologist (specialists), but is not commonly used. A TSH of over 3.0 indicates an underactive thyroid.
If you can not get help from a doctor, I would avoid foods that may slow down your thyroid. These foods are called goitrogens, and they only seem to effect some people.
Many goitrogens are generally members of the brassica family. These include:
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Brussel Sprouts
Cabbage
Mustard
Kale
Turnips
Rape seed (Canola Oil)
Other goitrogens include:
Soy
Pine nuts
Millet
Peanuts
Also dieting and poor nutrition could effect your thyroid also. So no more starving yourself.
Also have yourself checked for sleep apnea, poor sleep can contribute to your problems.

Think "lifestyle change" instead of "diet." Exercise more. Fill up on fruits and vegetables. Limit you fat. Eat only whole grains. Don't eat refined sugar or white bread, rice, pasta, etc. If I could recommend a book for you to read: Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. It's not a diet but it explains how and why to eat healthy. Great book for anyone interested in becoming healthier. Good luck to you.

Well, good for you for wanting to lose weight and TRYING!!! That's important, however.. you cannot burn fat if all you do is sit around and eat, even if you're almost starving. You've GOT to move your body. Start slow, even if it's just a walk around the block first. Anything is better than nothing, do a few crunches during commercial breaks on t.v., suck your tummy in while you sit/drive, etc. It would be very helpful to invest in a trainer so that you can get one on one advice and motivation. Can they ever give someone the benefit of the doubt that they mean well when they do??? I surely did!
Some people just can't wait to criticize everyone... I have a doctor friend who was over 300 pounds... and lost 58 in 2 months with a mixture of plants (over 200) all in all and that was last year and he never gained it back... It was none of the diets you mentioned but more like a way of life... eliminating white sugar, processed meats, and changing the time of day that he ate mostly the same foods he always ate... which didn't include Makky D!!! etc. I'm not done... before you jump in with another thumb down...

It is good that you drink water... it's the best! If you need a gluten-free diet, go to a health store where they sell in bulk unless you don't mind paying much more in pre-packed items such as flours, etc. And by the way, green teas, coffees, any other teas, juices, etc. all have their own agenda, which doesn't flush like water does... nor do they have the same properties... I suggest you read books about the foods on store shelves as approved by the FDA, such as Kevin Trudeau's books "What they don't want you to know about!" Stay away from any cereal or any product with "fructose" in it, as it is nothing less than poison! Replace your oils by cold-pressed oils such as olive oil and by the way, try this out... Doctors from 3 different countries gave it out and it is in one of my books called "Etre bien dans son assiette 365 jours par annee." And it is not only simple but flushes the bad fat and cleans your liver which has about 500 different functions in your body... Do this for at least two months, then if you want you can stop for one month and start again... or you can go on... Take and squeeze the juice of half a lemon... mix in one tbs. of cold-pressed olive oil and take this every night before bed... You'll love the results...
As for exercising, swimming is the very best bar none of even you could join a club where they do exercises (mild) in the water; for those who can't swim... it's excellent! Stay far away from anthing that says "diet" and never go hungry... eat raw vegetables... which should be the last meal of the day along with black-eyed peas (beans) which change your sugars into energy! You should see a big difference in just a few months; although you'll begin to feel a re-gain of energy amost right away... and from right now, when you look in the mirror, smile and see the person you want to be... what you think about expands... and the subconscious brain doesn't know the difference between the real and the make belief... so we can really fake it until we make it as it were... and whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can acheive so... it'll happen that much faster... if you begin already in your mind to see yourself as you want to be, soon, which is small and healthy... You can do it!!! I got rid of over 50 pounds just like that! years ago and it never came back... I never went hungry once and wouldn't dream of doing that as it triggers the body to want to store the hard bad fat and cellulite... I got rid of that too. Notice I say I got rid and not lost as that subconscious mind is sooooo good, that it will find whatever it is that we think we lost, even our old pounds... so don't lose the weight as much as you'll get rid of it... once and for all... Breads are much healthier at the baker's than on store shelves... remember these things... and let us know in 6 months what you look like and more importantly how much better you feel... Take care!!!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Stop "dieting" that never works. you just need to make a concious decision to: really limit desserts, completely limit fried foods, go easy on red meat, only eat whole wheat breads, and exercise, everyday, if only walking, for at least 30 minutes. you CAN lose the weight, you just need to do it. and start drinking grean tea (WITH NOTHING ADDED) if ur tired of water
