I've done this project. for your sake, I hope the adhesive is something other than what I experienced. the glue is still there. I tried everything including torches, gasoline, goo gone, something called Dynalloy (only available to industry- look it up), liquid nitrogen. I don;t know what adhesive they used to put it down- sort of a straw/light brown colored adhesive. it seems to be a solvent/oil based urethane adhesive system. It was there forever (and still is)

take a small, nondescript sample and place into a jar of gas. If it dissolves in few hours or days, you have a chance. If it does not, try boiling it in water for 15-20 minutes. same thing if it dissolves. you are trying to identify what type of adhesive- solvent/oil or water based. If either doesn't work, have someone with a sandblaster come out and spray it off.

The only thing I have yet to try is muriatic acid (HCl). this may be enough to attack the limestone in the cement and allow the top surface to be scraped off.

best of luck. I don't envy you.

Pull up the carpet and use this product made by the makers of Gorilla Glue. It is a type of goo gone product and it works very well. Let it sit and then scrub with a handled scrub brush. IF this doesn't work, use Forbys paint remover because it will strip anything...but be very careful because it is caustic and will eat through just about anything.

Pour water on carpet and just keep it wet for two days, then things will come out easily, if there are glue remains use a scrapper, water will loosen adhesive, if having little difficulty pour little paint thinner and continue scrapping,

They have adhesive removers that you can use....but just a plain old scraper will usually work if the carpet comes up easily.
