Ear catilage sensitivity (see details)?
Okay, I've been wondering about this for a while. I have two sets of holes in my ears which I had pierced about 10 years apart. The lower set isn't sensitive to anything, I can leave earrings in there for ever and not have it so much as itch.
The second set though becomes irritated after as little as 5 hours. I've tried the hypo-alergenic posts, silver, gold, platinum, even plastic and always get the same reaction.
Does anyone know why this might happen (other than I'm weird)?
I'm asking because I would like to pierce some of the cartilage on the upper part of my ears but won't do it if I'm likely to have the same reaction.
I also have a pierced nostril and two tattoos. None of this irritates me, just the second set of holes.
Thanks for your help!

well. catilage piercings are harder to heal. mine have always been hard to heal and they are still heaing. I dont think it is th type of jewely (do you know if its high quality?) but they are h ard to heal because you roll around alot owhen you sleep. also your hair gets stuck to them... also "posts" take those out.... visit a tattoo shop and have them give you a curved barbell or a captive bead ring asap.. how long have you had these? mine still get sore when I wake up. and its been a few months! (have had them since oct) but I have also had problems with them.. and still are.. but im they have improved greatly. I had posts in the (even thoguth i got them professionally done) and I got these huge bumps;.. ti was painful. I switched to a curved barbell then my hair kept gettign stuck. so ive switched to straight barbells (so really I suggest straight barbells or a captive bead rin) your hair wont snag as much on those
also did you have them done with a gun or a needle? if you got them done iwth a gun.
1) they are inappropriate size
2) they can shatter the cartilage
3) they cause blunt trama to the ear causing an increase in healing time.
hope you got them done wiht a needle! if not get them done with a needle next time!
but to help ease the pain and aid in healing im sure you konw abotu the sea salt soaks (sicne you have your nose pierced and bvious;y that was done with a needle I hope!)
but its 1/4 tsp. for every 8oz. of warm distilled water
once a day fro 15 minutes at a time!
good luck! but i would visit a local reputable piercer get new jewely have them switch it out and they will be able to help you with what kind of metal to choose from

Maybe whom ever pierced your cartilage pierced it at an angle in which case the jewlry might be slanted in your ear. In this case...it may never heal... ive heard of this happening and also if you got it done with a gun...it is more likely to be slanted than if you got it done with a needle. The piercing gun can shatter cartilage. (not a good idea!)
