What Do I Feed It?

My 2 yr-old cat just brought my fiance and I a baby bird home for dinner! It seems strong and healthy, but I don't know what to feed it. Anyone been through this successfully?

make sure the baby is warm.. to the touch.. if not.. he needs a heat source... put the bird in a box and a heat pad on low underneath.. when the baby is warm... feed him soaked dog food... no water!!!! there is plenty of water in the soaked food.. make sure the bites you feed him are small ones.. so they do not get caught in the throat...

now... contact your wildlife rehabber in your area..

unless its a sparrow or a starling.. then ur okay.. unless you just dont want to raise it.

here is a link to rehabbers in every state.

    http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm

now the above directions were for a sparrow or a starling..

Robins eat the same.. but also crushed worms.

also.. if you cannot find help... from the box you have him in.. he needs to be transferred into a clear container... to get some sunlight.. but not direct sunlight..

Doves on the other hand.. require a formula.. sold at pet stores..

do u have any idea what kind of bird..

is the inside of the mouth pink????

and is the bird gaping for food like he is starving to death?

remember only feed from sunrise to sunset!!!! at sunset.. cover what ever u have him in w/ a towel.

baby birds eat every 15 minutes.... you will notice a lump in the throat.. thats good.. its the crop... when the crop is empty.. feed again.. never feed back to back with the crop still full.

email me pics if u can. it would sure help me out. or help you out i should say

Try a local pet store, they almost all probably have baby bird food. It is like a mixture of ground up bird seed, vitamins, and some other things. You mix it with water and feed it with an eyedropper or a small syringe (without the needle). Just follow the directions for mixing and the amount to feed listed on the package. You must feed it soon, baby birds need to eat very frequently.

I would contact a wild life care center if at all possible. They rescue animals including birds in distress. For now you can try wild bird seed or earth worms that you get in bait shops.Try to handle this baby bird with gloves just in case it stands a chance to survive out in the wild and wont carry a human scent on it.I hope it does well.

If you feed your cat regular pet food, then

maybe you can put a bell on your cat's collar as to prevent future harm to birds.

    good luck

now with spring here and little baby birds everywhere your pets are more likely to bring home dinner more often...my dog will usually catch a few birds mostly fledglings since they have not learned how to fly yet. if the bird is uninjured just release it or if it is injured contact your local wildlife reserve or rescue group they will give you further feeding instructions until you are able to bring it to them for further help. Though usually injured birds will die either from the injury itself or from stress. I know it's sad...good luck

i think of maximum individuals have indexed the main modifications right here. purely a pair of recommendations to characteristic. Breast milk has the fore milk (watery, thirst quenching milk) and hind milk (prosperous, fatty and pleasing milk) which follows a jiffy later. once I convey, that each and every physique gets mixed mutually, so each and every now and then my toddler has to have some water as nicely to be sure his thirst is quenched. I went back to artwork while my toddler replaced into 3 months, so pumping replaced into the only way he gets my breastmilk interior the day time. So from that standpoint, it incredibly is a real advantageous. yet once I had the alternative between breastfeeding or pumping, i could choose right this moment from the breast each and every time.

I have heard smashing up a hard boiled egg and feed them that. It is suppose to be really good for them. (Actually that's why my doctors wife was feeding a robin when we were over their house.) You might want to try a worm or two.

take it the wildlife rescue shelter. If you don't have one near by, then just mush a worm and put in warm water and feed it by eyedropper.

    good luck
