Global warming is a religion, not science. Blind faith (scientist can't agree), repentance (give control of your life to gov't), tithing (taxation).....religion for the godless.

First of all, there is a considerable amount of proof that suggests that either the Earth is not warming or IF it is, it's not being caused by humans. There are plenty of experts, even a couple at MIT that think that the whole global warming thing is a joke.

In the 1950's some scientists said that the Earth was warming. Then in the 60's and 70's they thought that the Earth was cooling. Now it's warming again. Government and the UN have a very vested interest in trying to promote global warming. They want to collect a global tax on it and believe me, they will try to suppress anyone who has proof to the contrary. Al Gore, the king of global warming, refused to sign a contract saying that he would agree to cut his energy consumption down to that of the average person. If he really believed that it was happening, he would have signed it.

Now to answer your question. First of all, I would have to be convinced that global warming is happening AND it's being caused by people...maybe it is...I really don't know. But I think that the intent of a global tax would be to tax the U.S. to death...literally to death. The Chinese are polluting the environment at HUNDREDS of times the rate that America is, but I have a feeling that they would go unscathed. So no, I would not support a global tax. The UN's intent would not be to stop "global warming" but to knock down the United States.

If you don't believe me, feel free to give me a thumb down, I respect your opinion. After you do that, spend a good number of hours researching theories that don't agree that the Earth is warming. You may not change your mind but you will certainly agree that there is no way that people can prove it one way or the other.

Oil companies offshore a chunk of their money to ensure they DON'T pay taxes. Any good accounting department of any big megacorp knows every single workaround, loophole, and smokescreen to keep as much as they can from Uncle Sam.

On top of that, they get huge tax breaks and subsidies from the government. This is also known as "Corporate Welfare".

Instead, the government ends up taxing us, the consumer of the oil production end products. You should take a look at how the price of gasoline breaks down, it's pretty surprising.

And do you know where a good chunk of that money goes? Iraq.

Additional taxes only give additional income to the government, with no guarantee that it will be spent in an appropriate manner. Love that pork.

Taxes won't do anything. Cutting corporate welfare and in turn using that money to fund R&D and incentives for us common folk would do far more.

    EDIT

We can not stop global warming at this point. We can only slow it down and prepare for the consequences.

The only way to stop it is to eliminate a vast majority of our pollution and sequester the excess CO2 out of the atmosphere. Both either extremely expensive or just simply unrealistic.

Humans, most likely, are not the cause of the political agenda known as "Global Warming".

I know that Global Warming is happening, new evidence actually shows that the Sun's activity is causing the warming, not us.

We are, however, responsible for pollution, that is a reality. Something has to be done about our polluting industries and littering before we destroy the balance that keeps us all alive.

I do think people are causing global warming; however, I could care less. Therefore, yes, I would mind being further taxed. Global warming could evolve into a huge problem over time, I agree. But there are bigger problems to solve that are more eminent. That's how I feel anyway.

I think employing higher taxes would not encourage very much in the way of energy conservation, which I think is the best remedy for the climate change problem. Large corporations that already make huge profits will just shell out the extra cash and their overall consumption will change very little.

I would support a $2000 tax on each SUV. The Toyota Prism is half Batt. power and gets 50 mpg city. They should get a $2000 tax cut. If you are a Republican that listens to Rush then I have some land in the gulf coast you can buy. It's about 20 inches below sea level but "good land" according to Rush Limpwad.

BTW, Check your facts. Oil companies pay hardly any taxes in the USA. That's just not true.

As a matter of fact I would mind being taxed for the air I breath but I certainly wouldn't mind you giving donations to find a way to control the weather.

Liberals causing global warming? That's crazy. Just look at Gore and his principles...o wait...

Personally, I think they would mind.

Then again taxing everything is not going to solve much.

  • 1 decade ago

Well if you were an oil company (or two) making billions of dollars a year would you mind?

Personally, I would even though I'm not a MAJOR cause... we the people are a part of the major cause.
