Weight gain from Serequel?

My Dr. put me on 100 mg at bedtime to sleep as nothing else works.

my question does it cause weight gain and like a need for sweets? I have gained 20 lbs in 3 mos. This the only new med I am on. Thanks

I gained about 20 lbs in 3 months by taking Seroquel. Of course, I got bumped up to 800mg.

Have you ever smoked pot? Well, you really feel like eating when you smoke pot. And taking Seroquel (at first) made me really feel like I'd just smoked a whole bunch of pot. So I ate a whole bunch. But I actually didn't remember doing it so well.

Unfortunately, not in my daughter's case (she is underweight). She has been taking the same doseage as you are for over three months, and has not gained an ounce.

Years ago, I gained a tremendous amount of weight in one month from Prozac, and was taken off it. I was told that mine was a very unusual situation, however.

Oh my god! It was terrible. I was put on it for Bipolar. I put 25 pounds on and THAT was even more depressing. It also KILLED my sex drive. I was always hungry, sometimes ordering 2 orders of something because I was always hungry. When I was first put on it, within 20 mins of taking it, I felt terribly "drugged". I had to hold on to the walls to make it to the bedroom. I would have such a dry mouth that I would sort of wake up in the middle of the night searching for my water bottle, still drugged. Constant dry mouth. i decided to just drinks tons of water BEFORE i went to bed, and here's the most terrible part. Because I was so drugged, and so full of water, I peed the bed. I did not like how this medication made me feel. My doc changed me to Lamactal. I feel pretty good on it with no noticible side effects. But this is for the bipolar. I've been having trouble sleeping lately and my doc was going to put me on a low dose of Seroquel again. I told her no thanks. I'm been on all other sleeping meds, Ambien, Lunesta, Rozeram-- didn't like them. My doc recently put me on Trazadone. I love it. I'm not seeing side effects and it puts you to sleep nicely. I have no clue why it took my doc so long to put me on it. Good luck with the Seroquel. For me--- never again.

yes, definately does. my boyfriend takes 200mg at night and since he started taking it, his eating habits hadn't changed at all (they were very healthy to begin with) and he gained 40lbs over the course of a year, probably would have gained more if he didn't start seriously working out after he saw what was happening.

yes it can cause weight gain. you should even out soon. ( that dosent mean you will lose the weight...the gaining will just stop)

    i know its a bummer. :(
