Shopping for lace in Lucerne?

Hi, I will be visiting Lucerne for the first time this summer with my daughter's choir, and a friend has told me to look for lace while in Switzerland. Can anyone tell me where in Lucerne would be a good place to look? We will be there for 4 days, however we already have alot of our time blocked out with the tour company we'll be with. I will have a couple of afternoons free while the students are in rehearsal. Thanks in advance!

I lived in Lucerne for 2 years and never knew laces were a popular shopping item there :)

However, if you check out the old town, there are a lot of shops there where you can find all sorts of stuff. Try the stores in Zurichstrasse too, also central. There is a smopping mall in Emmen too...

It is one of the most beautiful towns in the world and a visit to Mount Pilatus or Rigi wouldn't hurt either... Or just toake a boat to any close town and back.. You will be amazed by its beauty...

I lived in Switzerland for three years and I never discussed lace as being something that was sought over. While I was in Austria, I saw lace everywhere. Are you sure your friend wasn't thinking of Austria? Lucerne is a nice city for browsing and shopping. You will get to know the aldstadt (The old city) quite well in four days. Look, ask...you will find what you want for sure. I am sure you will visit Pilatus and or Rigi Kulm when you go...you will enjoy both.

that's an odd comment.... I wonder when you friend was in Switzerland because hand loomed laces are quite a thing of the past. I know they still make tourist stuff like handkerchiefs and small linen items with lace but almost no one in the world still makes yards of handmade lace. Would also be a fortune to buy!! Since even good machine lace can range up to $50 a yard.

    www.bearthreadsltd.com

This is the best supplier in the USA of Swiss and french laces.... as you can see they don't even carry a true handmade lace... it's machine embroidered.

The tour giude may help you there, or the tour will take where toursists trap's are, but chances they will have what you are looking for.. or try this super-store:

    Manor Luzern

    Weggisgasse 5

    6002 Luzern

    They may have it there.

p.s. went to a website of Swiss textile mabuf. Assoc.: they do have lace made in Switzerland, so you may find some in Lucern, but it is machine made. Bubbles is wrong. (see her response below)

I've live and /or been all over Europe. The one place to still buy Lace is in Belgium. If you look hard enough , you can still find the table cloths and other items made in convents by nuns. You will also find many boutiques filled with beautiful lace.
