Slaughterhouse Five?

In the face of tragedy and horror, humor is a wonderful way of transcending. Without pain there would be no humor; without humor, pain is much harder to bear.

between the two I would pick Slaughterhouse Five. although I think for a Vonnegut book you may want to look at Player Piano or Bluebeard as I think either of these books would be easier to write a book report or discuss than Slaughterhouse-Five would be. Here are some other suggestions to read. All of these books are short and fairly quick, easy to understand reads and in all cases the stories are good. 1) Candide by Voltaire 2) King Solomon's Mines by H. Slaughterhouse isn't a comedy per-se. It's a satire. Vonnegut uses the story line to demonstrate the horror of war by giving examples of what he saw using irony mixed with the absurd to demonstrate how he felt about war itself.

He didnt. He wrote it as a satire. He wanted people to know exactly what a farce he thought war was and just like so many before him, starting with Juvenal, he chose to use satire to make his point. I will miss him too. I personally always wanted to be Montana Wildhack. Pax - C

I think he simply wrote it as it came. That I thought it somewhat humorous was only incidental. I also thought it sad. Kilgore Trout is always a scream.

I believe he once said, if you coat the truth in sugar, people can take it. Or something along those lines.

'Cuz he was a really funny guy! Tough to be that thought-provoking and funny at the same time, but he did it, time and again.
