Some people are convinced that anyone who is religious is simple-minded, not able to think for themselves, and at worst are judgmental and ignorant.

You and I know that, while there are some Jews, Christians, and others that are indeed judgmental, etc., there is tremendous value in religion for individuals and society. And that most people who are religious are people who love their family and want to serve God.

There are narrow minded religious folk just as there are narrow-minded atheists. We all could learn a lot from each other if we approached each other's beliefs with an open mind and heart.

Why do you need a religion to believe in "your people?" there is more "knowledge" in a bag of dirt than there is in most of these fairy tale books!

Being anti-religious has nothing to do with a fear of the unknown. If anything, being IN a religion for a lot of people is because of a fear of the unknown & laziness. They do not know how the universe works & they do not want try to figure it out so they form a religion with deities to explain the way things work. They are afraid of death so they create a wonderful afterlife filled with unicorns and rainbows and clouds that you can walk on with streets of gold..... and all they have to do is kiss said deity's butt enough to get a member's only jacket to enter.

In my opinion, people blindly cling to religions because of their fears for the unknown & the fear of what their fictional god will do if they choose to stray from their religions and actually enjoy the gift of life that has been given to them.

I'm partially anti-religion. I think religion can be very useful for people who don't know how to derive their morals any other way, by clever parents who know how to raise a child for example. On the other hand, if you derive your morals from just a book, you may start doing ridiculous things if the book is not clear or misinterpreted. The promise of heaven can make many people very crazy. Therefore I think humanity should invest more in educating people how they can teach their children morals without the treat of hell, than investing in hell.

Some people just aren't that way orientated. When they see the strife religion causes (for example, the Middle East) it becomes something negative in their minds.

Personally, I am a spiritual kind of person, but my mom scoffs at this sort of thing. She agrees with some things in religion, but most she sees as dogmatic and inflexible. She's declared herself an Atheist and only believes in what she's personally experienced. I understand her stance: she renounced Chritianity at the age of 11. She's never experienced anything spiritual, therefore how can she understand and accept religion?

"Most atheists have never studied atheist history or learned the importance of atheism to science and social progress. Atheism is left out of discussions in schools."

This quote from the linked site more then proves how dishonest atheists are. They want all religion out of the public policy at all levels but want to teach atheism in our schools. The main goal of atheists is to disprove religion, and deny the very rights they insist they have, which somehow do not apply to people of religion.

And they call us intolerant, quite hilarious.

The link is worth looking at, the atheist alliance.

Religion has been the cause of many, oh so many, deaths and wars. I'm spiritual. I believe in God but I don't go to church. We really are not supposed to be religious, just have our own personal relationship with God.

Maybe they are that way because when they ask sincere questions they get nasty answers. Some people would inevitably conclude that since asking WHY believers believe gets them nastiness, nastiness is a requirement for belief.

I, for one, am always wondering how another could reach a different conclusion that I.
