EDT stands for Eastern Daylight Time. That means that Daylight Savings Time is being observed and the time is one hour ahead of normal time. So If its 8AM EDT it would be 5AM PDT in California.

EDT Stands for eastern daylight time. For the winter period, one would use EST or eastern standard time. The difference denotes the current daylight savings time status.
Eastern time is 3 hours ahead of the time in California or Pacific time. Thus, 8:00 am in EDT is 5:00am PDT (pacific daylight time).

You usually see EST moreso than EDT, but I believe it stands for Eastern Daylight Time, whereas EST stands for Eastern Standard Time.

Eastern Daylight Time. Meaning that here in California, it would be 5 a.m. We are on 3 hours difference (behind). Hope this helps. :)
