Almost all "general purpose", all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove the Smitfraud infection.
To remove the SmitFraud infection here, download the free, specialised tool called SmitFraudFix v2.126 and follow the procedure.

And here is another removal tool and procedure to remove Smitfraud:

Good luck.

I don't trust any antispyware but SpyBot, but that's because I've used it for over 3 years to keep this kind of stuff out of my computer. Here's a list of the current spyware SpyBot will find for you, IF you have the latest updates as of 4-25-07:
Adware
+ Weatherstudio.Toolbar
Dialer
+ CyberBill
Keylogger
+ BossEveryware + Ghostlogger + HandyKeylogger
Malware
+ IRC.Zapchast + Win32.Stration
PUPS
+ EverestPoker
Spyware
+ GuardianMonitor
Trojan
+ Agobot.Backdoor + Dmcast.Toolbar + DropSpam (2) + Hupigon13 + Opnis.Nak + Smitfraud-C.KooWo + Smitfraud-C.Toolbar + Win32.Agent.jb + Win32.Delf.zq + Win32.Maran.db + Win32.OnLineGames + Win32.Small.r + Win32.Rbot.aeu + Win32.Rbot.bms + Zlob.BrainCodec (2)
Total: 378907 fingerprints in 66286 rules for 2830 products.
Open SpyBot and download all the latest updates, then immunize the computer again, and then run another full bot check. Remove everything it finds using the Fix Selected Problems. If you have a big hard drive this may take 20-30 minutes, but it's well worth it.

Hello. Please see this page. The instructions are about half way down by a user called Bianc@

Also here's another solution, which is kinda the same:

And go here to download HiJack This, which will produce a log file like you see on those forums.

it's probably in your documents and settings folder somewhere and when you delete it, the main file replicates the deleted file and therefore you're hit again. I would research what SMITFRAUD.C is and the name of the host file and then you can find it... some programs are renamed to look like system files...
