I have an axe to grind.?

I have an axe I just bought and its rather dull. Is using a bench grinder going to ruin it forever or is it ok to use. The axe will be used for hacking limbs off fallen branches and splitting firewood, and not used extremely often. Also I dont' care if the blade is 'perfect' or not.

if you had any sense, you would use a flat mill bastard file and file it down. You need to start on the cutting edge and lay the file flat on the ax and just start filing. It is not easy, time consuming, but the ax will be sharper than any hardware grinder can make it.

You could use a bench grinder, but donl't get it so hot that it discolours or turns blue. A simple hand file will do a nice job without over heating.

Don't get it too hot on the grinder it will wear down faster. It should be ok.

Should work, but be careful of backlash. The best way is to take your axe to the local hardwear store, and have them sharpen it. God Bless, Martha S.
