I would like to hear from YOU about detox from anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medications!!?
I would like to know who ELSE out there has been through anti-depressant DETOX?? What was your experience?
Although, I'm not totally against anti-depressants; I do believe that lots of doctors just hand them out like candy. Again, not ALL; but LOTS!! And not once, have I heard one word about just how hard it is to get off them once I got on them!!
When it all comes down to it, yes; I was depressed. BUT, the anti-depressant wasn't the answer. In fact, it become PART of the problem.
My depression stemed from being abused & neglected and began very early in my life. No pill of any kind could have done anything to help that. The sad part is that a doctor knew of the abuse & neglect, yet; sat there and did nothing to help. Actually, he PROTECTED the abuser; which was my sister.
I know that is why, to this day; that I don't believe much of what doctor's say. That, as well as lots of other experiences w/doctors. And for those doctors out there: why don't you listen??

I have been on 2 medications anti-depressants, The first time I just stopped taking them without the help of a doctor. It was horrible, I started shaking and was very angry. The second medication was different. I was told how to get off them slowly by decreasing my dose by 1/2 over a period of time. Any doctor will help you get off if you are considering it, do it with a doctor.

I am sorry you had such a horrible experience with your psychiatrist. I wish you would have seen a psychologist as well since he/she would have been more in tune with your emotional issues rather than just put you on medication.
I am currently trying to get off of my medication and so far it is going well. I don't have any side effects, but I am also on a very low dosage.
My best advice would be to go to a doctor and ask them to ween you off slowly. Go down dosage by dosage and when you are on the lowest dosage, cut them in half if possible. I think that is a lot better than just stoping. Also, find a new doctor and try to find a psychologist that will help you with your emotional problems as well.
good luck!

Depends on the med's! Paxil and Zoloft you need to ween off. Contact a physician to determine how. Prozac you can just quit taking. You need to find a therapist you are comfortable with in order to take advantage of what therapy offers. Shop around! You don't need to worry about hurting their feelings if you change therapists. This is about you not them. Med's will only help along with proper therapy.
