Should my family move to Austin, Texas?

My family has lived in Northern California, one hour from SF, our whole lives. We are a pretty adventerous family and are ready for a change. My brother and I are about to go to college so the move would be an easy one. We love watersports. We are a pretty liberal family and we dont know if we belong in Texas. How miserable is the weather? What do you think?

I lived in Austin for 6 years and really enjoyed what it had to offer. There is world-class live music every night at dozens of venues, great restaurants, and, politically, it is the liberal pocket of an otherwise mostly conservative state. The educational level of Austin's residents is pretty high, and unemployment is pretty low - which I believe contributes to a relatively low crime rate for a city its size. Austin is close to the "hill country" which offers great getaways for hiking and biking. Town Lake (part of the Colorado river) runs right through town -- it has walking/running trails along side of it. Barton Springs Pool (it is huge!) is fed from underground springs so the water temperature averages 68 degrees year round. Austin is the home of great companies like Whole Foods and Dell Computers.

The downsides to Austin? For me it was the l-o-n-g, HOT, humid summers (yes, "miserable" pretty much describes it), the high cost of housing, and the terrible traffic congestion. However, those downsides were vastly outweighed by the advantages of living there. I left Austin for career and family - otherwise, I'd still be there.

Austin has super night existence and food. The hill united states of america is surprising. i've got continually enjoyed Austin, yet like Houston the site visitors is a nightmare. i don't know approximately Dallas. the two cities possibly have an internet guests handbook. Houston does.
